A friend of mine works for a suppressor company that is developing a suppressor for the .458 SOCOM. The design that they're looking at comes back over the barrel to increase the baffling volume for better sound suppression.
The upper that they have has a standard carbine-length gas system so they were planning to come back 7" over the barrel. My upper has the mid-length gas system and has less than 5" of open barrel in front of the gas block. Just about all of the SOCOM uppers that I've seen are also mid-length.
My question is, what is the most popular gas-system length on the .458 SOCOM AR15 uppers?
