I had a Konus on mine. It withstood the recoil no problem. The base on the other hand, not so much.

I had good luck shooting the 400 grain (I believe) Winchester Platinum hollowpoints.

    Have fun with that beast!

I got the base from H&R, Millet rings and Cabelas brand Shot gun scope 2x7 power. I shot 20 rounds sighting and getting used to the gun, and 5 shots during the season without a problem. Recoil was less than my 12 gauge.

I have one. What a beast, and a blast to shoot. I shoot Hornady 300 grain. My only complaint is the recoil will break open the barrel. More times than not. I have not noticed any accuracy issues from this, but be careful shooting some of the hotter loads. I use fiber optic rifle sights

I would recommend a steel base such as a Warne. However, the Warne base I purchased was not manufactured correctly and the action would not completely close with it. I would stick a 2.5x - 4x shotgun scope on it.

Madtowngunny needs to get in touch with H&R about lockup issue. I have the H&R 500 S&W and the rifle packs a punch. If you mount a scope to this gun make sure you use high qualitity base and rings for mounting a scope that can handle high recoil. I use warne steel rings and base and have a Nikon shotgun scope mounted. So far it is staying tight and scope is still functioning after about 50 rounds being fired. I had a simmons prodiamond 4x on it for about three shots and it ruin it. I have shot 300, 350, 400, and 440 grain bullets out of this rifle and I just couldn't settle on a load to hunt with. I haven't shot the rifle in a while but I think I will use the 440gr to finalize my sighting in for deer hunting

Nice looking rifle! Get's me ready for deer season, not that it takes much! As you know ammo is a bit pricey but HSM make some excellent ammo if you can find it. Shoot what you like but I find the hard cast bear loads to be a bit much for Indiana whitetail, 300-350gr HP is more than enough, and no tracking wounded deer.
