What’s up guys. Just ordered a Thompson center LRR .308. Looking for a budget friendly quality scope out to about 500 yards. My first choice is a vortex due to price warranty, and customer service. Just wondering if any of u experienced long range guys have any other suggestions. Thanks guys.

I will def look there. Just not sure which model is good for at least 500yards. It’s my first long range rifle so I’m kind of new to the long range stuff

Give the Vortex Diamondback Tactical scopes a look. They have a nice reticle and are pretty inexpensive. Out to 500 yards doesn't really require much magnification.

What is your budget for the scope?I have seen allot of Vortex scopes fail,I know about the warranty and customer service.I have seen 20 to 30 fail in the 4 years shootin long range matches.I would look at Leupold or NightForce. The quality is much better in my opion.

yep to this. Not one failure with my Leupold. Ever. 50 years of shooting. Hunting and competition.

I was always told to spend about the same money on the scope as the rifle, buy once/cry once. Swfa, nightforce, sightron are good distance scopes. If you're on a budget that doesn't allow top quality optics for 500 yards just wait longer (that's from my personal bad experiences of getting in a hurry)

I've owned Vortex, Burris, Leupold, and Athlon. Only scope to fail was the Vortex. My buddy also had one fail. So I stay away from them.

I'd recommend checking out the Athlon lineup. They offer some nice long range scopes at various price points. I really like the 2 Athlon that I have. A lot of scope for the $ and they have a no BS warranty. My next scope will be another Athlon.

I put a Crossfire II 6-24x50 AO on my Ruger precision rifle in 308. You can easily see a 12" diamond AR500 target at 500 yards. My rifle when shooting in the barrel was hitting that target every shot with cheap Wolf Polyformance 145gr 308. It was to muddy to drive to the target so I just shot the steel target. Wind was 12 mph. I credit the RPR and scope combination for being able to hit that far out with cheap ammo and Wolf seems to be capable of 2 moa accuracy maybe better. Wish I was able to put up a paper target but the range was to busy and the path to the 500 yd target was a muddy mess.

It is never an enjoyable experience waiting for a scope to get back from the shop. I am in the group that values quality over worry whatever the brand.
