Okay. I see where you're going with it. So you're thinking something like this...

When, not if, the day comes when the lefties finally take over, besides limiting round capacity, they'll likely make it hard to even get pistols and parts too.

So rather than sink a lot of money into one fine pistol, I'd rather have multiple ones to have some as backup.
And with an 8 round limit, I want each round to have as much power as I can handle.

A simple, reliable, utilitarian, long life, all around pistol would be a Glock 20.

It could be used for self defense, as well as hunting with the various loads available for it.

For example, for self defense I use 10mm Underwood 155 grain HP that I read reviews of stock Glock 20's getting over 1500fps muzzle velocity with over 700 foot pounds of energy.

And for when I go to my NW Wisconsin cabin, I use 10mm Underwood 200 grain hardcast rounds in case I have to face a black bear. (which I pray I never have to)

If you could only own 1 handgun to carry, for home defense, and hunting with if your are a handgun hunter what would you choose? Maximum 8 Rd pistol or revolver.

    I personally would choose a 10mm Ruger or Kimber 1911 5"

    Desert eagle 50AE.

You may laugh but it accomplishes everything else on your checklist with flying colors, except for concealed carry. Except I've managed concealed carry with mine just fine as long as I wear a loose button up shirt.

    If we're talking 8 rds...
    a s&w 627 of some variety and/or the new Ruger Super GP100 (the 8-rounder)

    in 357 mag, of course.

2nd place choice, (if not for CCW) would be Dan Wesson Bruin 1911 6" in 10mm

We need pictures of this feat.

I would just start open carrying my 329PD with my 340PD as backup. If the law makers decided I cannot be trusted with 18 rounds of 9mm, I will carry 6 really big rounds of .44 for everyone to see.

One for both defense and hunting?
.41 Mag with heavy flat nosed wadcutters.
Insert hollow point pin when molding wadcutters for defense.
For hunting just mold them soft (use flat point or cup point pins) and enjoy the one handed 40-65.
The photo below shows what I found to be top end weight for Blackhawks. For double action shooting the wadcutters need to be lighter weight but heavier than typical .41 fare.
