8mm Mauser

Buddy of mine has an 8mm mauser he wants to sell me. He wants 175 for it and comes w/ bout 200 rds of ammo. You guys think this is a good deal, dont know to much about these so figured id ask. Thanks fellas!

There are DOZENS of rifles chambered in 8mm Mauser...

In order to determine the value, and therefore if $175 is a good deal, you will need to provide the make and model of the rifle. As well as the condition.

What you've done, essentially, is akin to saying "I can buy a gasoline-powered car for $175. Is that a good deal?"

i bought one for 130 bucks thinking it was a deal....wasnt worth

i actually lost money when i tried to sell it.

my advice on mausers is if it doesnt have nazi markings. walk away

That will have you miss out on great shooters like Yugo 24/47 and M48.

Still... you really do need to know much more specifics and know your market. Mausers can be anything from $100 for a Turk to 4 figures for all matching rigs with German markings.

One thing to think: Am I buying this for future posterity or am I buying it to shoot it? I would imagine a great bore, good throat and decent crown can be the base for an awesome build (or restoration).

Nice Boyd's stock, Timney trigger group, proper bedding, that would make a great walk along rifle for waltzing Matilda in the near future.

Aussie term for bumming around the countryside. At the rate our nation is heading, after SHTF, one (if not staying stationary) would waltz Matilda.

In any case, a good Mauser with plenty of ammo would fit the bill for a great, general purpose rifle.

Sounds like a good deal to me as long as the bore is good. M48's I've seen lately run around $200-$300. I've seen some tagged as high s $400 but they mysteriously never sell for some reason.

As a shooter, they have a pretty solid reputation.

The ammo is loose, I just like shooting old guns. Lot of history with some of them.

Buy it you won't be sorry, shoot up the ammo and if you don't like the rifle , sell it and get your money back. The ammo might be corrosive, so don't forget to clean it after you are done shooting.

Those M48's are good guns. I say go for it if the bore is still good.
Old mil-surp 8mm ammo is almost a sure thing to be corrosive.
