Well, in early 2000's, AIM/Century/SOG had M44's for $99.00 and 91/30' for $79.00. I bought my Albanian SKS from AIM in 2004 for $99, it was in "fair" condition. I bought my Chinese T54 from a private individual in 2005 for $30. It was a non-import with a broken stock. Fixed the stock myself. Back before Wholesale Guns and Ammo went out of business they were selling Finnish M39 Mosins for $99. I bought many from them. At the time, they were the "go to" business for ANY Finn Mosins.

I am a little older than that. I bought a fresh un reissued Tikka rebarreled model 91 Mosin Nagant (hex reciever) for $105 in the mid 1980's. The raggedy ones that were tossed loose in a crate like cord wood were $45 to $60. Surplus ammo was about 12 cents a shot in a span can. I was pretty fortunate then and was earning about $50,000 a year because Reganomics let the private sector prosper.

Even a premium Mosin Nagant was cheap fun.

My 91/30 was given to me about 5 years ago as a gesture of appreciation for services rendered.
When it was presented to me I was told they were going for about $65 a piece. This came with all of the accessories. My brother was presented the identical rifle at the same time, and we were given a spam can of 440 rounds to split between us.

The person that gave them to us told us at the time that the estimated value was less than $200 for both rifles w/ accessories and a spam can of ammo.

I bought my first spam can of 7.62x54R for $60.

I try my best to not look at older pricing. I wasn't in any position to purchase during most of it, so why worry myself about it now?

That makes me want to cry. I paid $279 for mine. But I love it.

Let's see.......1970's, nice pre-64 1894 Winchester-$115.00, nice 03A3 Springfield-$125.00, mint Chilean 95 Mauser all matching #642-$125.00, all the model 19 S&W's you wanted for $200-$250 each, new Colt Series 70 Gov't model-$195.00, Colt SP1-$200.00. I remember telling a friend he was nuts for giving $200.00 for an excellent 6" blued Colt Python. I know, minimum wage was $1.60/hr so those prices weren't as low as they appear now, but it sure seems you could get a lot more for your hard earned money back then.

I believe this man is right, you COULD get more for you wages then, because the tax bite was single digit percentages. Today's wage earner loses 35% of his wage before he cashes the check, and loses another 20 to 25% of the net paying other taxes. When you have to work over 6 months a years just for the tax burden, not a lot is left for things you want and things you need.

Yes Reganomics (trickle down economics), which Bill Clinton took the credit for a prospering economy in the 90's.

I have talked to a lot of people over the years that thought Reganomics was BS. But those of us that remember, see it differently.

Today we have trickle up economics, and it's not working.

Old thread but I think I bought my collection of Mosin’s when they were $99 to $125 and you could buy a crate of them, early 2000s? One website is now selling 91/30s for $375. Folks are trying to sell them for $500 but they are selling for about $350+. I bought a Remington Mosin for about $450 no import mark or Army marks. That was a lot for a Mosin. I bought other milsurps back then and now I am glad I did. The most I paid were for a 6 mil sn Garand and a matching duffle cut K98. I tried to get one variant of each Mosin and stayed away from electro penciled ones. Only one had a rough barrel and it was a duplicate (m38 I think) that I sold to a friend.

Still have em. Not going to sell.
