so. i just cleaned a jam out of a sig 938, the case was stuck in the chamber and would not come out, i was thinking that the cause was the chamber out of spec or barrel some how in a bind, so i had to put slide in a vise and with a rubber malet tap the rear of the frame, could not open with just hands, the extractor sliped around the rim on the case and the case was sill in chamber, this is a live bullet by the way, so with the slide in the rearward postion i was able to disassemble the gun and knock the bullet and case out of the chamber, the primer had been hit by the fireing pin and the primer was pushed out of the case about 1/16 of an inch, so the primer egnighted but the powder didnt, i took the round to the kenetic bullet puller and just as i thought,....no flash hole, wish i could post a pic to prove it, but the ammo is winchester 9mm 147 grain jhp, factory ammo, one didnt have a flash hole, ive never seen that, how common is that?????.

You had the malfunctions of all malfunctions it sounds like. Although that malfunction you would not have noticed visually. I have found rounds in duty ammo in backwards and no primer at all (just 2 out of several 100 thousand rounds). I kept them for a training aid to show why we practice malfuntion drills which in most cases work! With the millions of rounds pumped out there are bound to be a few not made right.

I did have a similar issue with Wolf ammo in a M&P 45. The round fired but the steel case expanded way more than normal and locked up my gun. I also had to use a rubber mallet to get it unstuck. Funny thing is I just bought 1 box to try in the auto. Didn't really want a lot because I couldn't use it in my 45 wheelguns for that reason. I don't use steel case ammo for any of my autos anymore.

I would contact Winchester. I wouldn't expect anything but with the lot number they might be able to trace a source of the problem. especially if they have had a couple other calls on it. Which would help another fellow shooter

I had the same exact thing happen in my M&P45, cracked casing. Although, I didn't have to get a mallet. I never bothered to try that ammo in it again.

Been a few years since I have talked with Paul; so, this may or may not still be a good number, but give it a try.

Please please please call the manufacturer and let them know of the issue.

I HOPE that you have the original packaging the ammo came in. They'll need the lot number for tracking purposes.

Chances are very good that you'll also receive a return shipping label to return all from that lot that you have. And chances are also quite high that you'll receive at least as many new boxes of ammo in return for your troubles.

Ammo manufacturers take defects VERY seriously - (not for altruistic measures, unfortunately. They're much more worried about liability & lawsuits)
