I give another vote for the Savage, I love my 10FP.
The thing I didn't see mentioned tho is that- Savage barrels can be changed by the average person. Vice,wrench,go/nogo guage and your set So you could have multitude of barrels with the one reciever. the only additional parts needed would be The bolt heads which are basicly lage and small.
On www.savageshooters.com you can learn how to change the barrel, find them forsale heck Ive talked to a bunch of them from Indiana on there. They usually do a longrange shoot at youngs range up in the NE part of the state.

I am really liking my 22-250 bolt action (think it's a savage but to lazy to run up and look just now). The ammo is more expensive than .223 but they come out around 4k fps. They're good in the 300 yard + range depending on how hot they're loaded. My 2c worth.

The Stevens 200 is made by Savage and is in similar price range as the Edge. One nice thing about the Stevens is the fact you can put aftermarket Savage stocks on them if you want to. Gives you options.

    .223 rifles

At Dunhams here in Muncie about 2 weeks ago they had a Rem 700 VTR in .223 with new style bbl and built in comp for under $600 after rebate of $50

have savage model 25 med hvy barrel shoot great straight out of box can find one for about 525 laminate stock my favorite rifle .223

I would opt for the 22-250 (450 yds) if you want long range. I would opt for the 223 if you want decent range out to 300 yds. The 223 is cheaper to shoot and ammo is easier to find in a greater variety. You might also consider a Thompson Encore which is not quite as accurate with factory barrels as a good bolt action. Then you can change barrels easily if you want a different calibre.

I hunt coyote with a 22K hornet, .223, 22-250, 308, and on rare occasion a 22mag with heavier bullets for close range (75yards or less).

I have Remington 700's, Remington 788, Ruger No. 1, T/C contender, T/C Encore, and Ruger 77/22 in 22 khornet and 22 mag. All are adequate as well as Savages etc. Buy what you like and feel comfortable and confident shooting. It's all fun. Good shooting.

Thanks! My LONGEST shots will be in the 200-250 yard range. I went .243 for versatility. I did go with the Savage based on my price range and the best bang for my buck. I get it next week, can't wait to fire some rounds.

You will like the .243 for sure. It's a great round to play with should you delve into the world of reloading.

I lived in Texas for a number of years and had a Ruger Mk 77 in .25-06 which
I used on jackrabbits, coyotes, and deer. Broad range of bullet weights to choose from.... Lots of .243's used on the same game.

I sold the 25-06 a while back only because of the noise factor. Shooting groundhogs down in Morgan County... 200 yards is a long shot. Now I use a little antique .218 Bee.... boom! compared to BOOM!

    Have fun!

I would go with the Savage in .223 or .243,you can't go wrong with either cartridge or the rifle.I have a Savage model 112 and have shot hundreds of prairie dogs with it and couldn't ask for a better rifle for the price.Mine is a .223 caliber.

Edge is a good entry level gun to start out with....223 is also a good choice...enough gun to take yotes out to 300 yards...as with the combo gun deals...the scope will be a cheap 3-9...wouldnt b my choice...happy hunting
