I was pretty skeptical ......actually quite skeptical about flying out of Chicago but had no problems declaring my S&W M&P 40c. I did have it disassembled with a lock through the mag well, all assemblies in seperate zip lock bags and these inside a locked pelican case inside another locked suitcase...yada yada yada. The airline just wanted to see that it was not loaded then walked me to a TSA desk where an officer used some type of wipe and ran it along the inside of my Pelican case. Had me sign a declaration form and my luggage was in the belt.
Returning from Las Vegas was pretty much the same. Flew out on 7/17 and returned 7/20....no problems. I still prefer to fly out of INDY but Chicago is much closer to Valparaiso.

I too have had a problem at Midway or O'Hare nor any other airport. Just declare, sign the card, check through TSA then go on my merry way (sans firearm).
