I am not looking to buy. Just curious about your opinions about these three platforms, each loved by some, and hated by others.

Rate them (1 or all 3) on a scale of 1 being worst and 10 being best in the following categories:

You'd also have to include calibers for each to cover accuracy, stopping power, and lethality from long distances.

Sorry, I was referring to caliber of original release.
    AK - 7.62x39mm
Galil - 5.56x45mm (definitely not in the same class for stopping power... is the 7.62x51mm Galatz, sniper version, even available to consumers in the US?)
    M1A - 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 win)

Of those it would be a wash between an IMI and AK-47. I know the M1A is a sentimental favorite of a lot of people, but deep down they always have to make excuses for them.

I Too love them - but would choose a different rifle if I had the choice and needed .308

The IMI Galil will set you back a cool $1500++ so that may be an issue for you, and a good AK will run you about $800-1000 depending on the options you choose.

So - even though I am not using your scale I would say AK-Galil-M1A

    AK

    M1A

    Galil

Just because the AK is easier to get and cheaper with more options. The M1A is expensive but more options than a Galil. Love the galil but the Century ones are hit or miss and a real IMI is over 2 grand.
