I was talking to gunshop owner today. He told me that he had to agree to 18% price increase on all ammunition he bought or he would but cut off. he said the new prices will start april 1. Can anyone confirm or disprove his allegations?

Unlike Walmart, this place had ammo on the shelves. Matter of fact his shelves were full. Maybe he was trying to rationalize his prices. 170$ for UMC bulk 200 .223, winchester .22lr 333 rd box 40$, etc..

People are paying it now out of panic. They won't be so willing to put up with those prices in the lon run. Eventually they'll stop.

Is it a wonder his shelves are full at those prices?!?

Supply and demand. Even when demand is up and supply is low that doesn't mean you can charge whatever arbitrary price you wish. It's important to consider the dozens of other factors.

Indy Trading Post has increased their prices some but still within reason. They have 9mm, but 1 box limit the last time I was there. They seem to be about us as gun owners. Their shop is busy and they dont seem to be trying to make a fortune on us during this panic.
I will keep doing business there even after the panic is over. They should be rewarded for their concern with more than the short term bottom line.

Um, yeah. It' pretty much does. Shops can CHARGE anything they damn well please. Getting people to pay those prices? That's a different story.

No, it didnt surprise me his shelves were full after he told me the prices. Needless to say I did not buy any.

Funny.....We hear all these stories and Wal-mart prices have moved barely at all

I would venture to say that is because its awful hard to impossible to strong arm Walmart that way. They are usually the ones doing the dictating. But I wouldnt be surprised to hear that local shops are getting this type of thing from distributors.

I think I said all of this a month ago and what makes me smile is that some of those who told me I was an idiot for saying so are right here in this thread now agreeing with me. So much for the free market in all its glory now huh? Each time we se a run we see an increase in ammo prices above what would be expected for the devaluation of the dollar. The increase we see is directly related to how long the panic/run lasts as well, longer it goes the bigger the average increase seen.

which is why I have called for calm for so long and to not just empty a shelf of everything because you can... for which I was called an Obama supporter or a socialist.

One day, in the not so distant future (la la la)*, actually shooting a firearm will only be done on special occasions and by the very rich.
Why bother with gun control legislation when it is so easy to cause a run on things that just makes prices rise and rise?
Making the prices go u and up certainly controls guns since a gun is just a club w/o ammo.

    *sorry, a little MST3K humor I couldn't resist there...

There is the possibility that there are pricing agreements that limits Wally World from upping their prices. Although, the likelihood of that being the case....
