My local range told me a couple of weeks ago that they sold over 9000 rounds of 9mm alone in just under one week.
The best part for them is, he said they picked up 90% of that at the back of the range at the end of the week.
I was lucky enough to get my supply's back to acceptable levels just before the little nut bag pulled that crap at the school.
I have been looking for and buying up .308 when I can find it for a price not requiring a second mortgage.
Speculators flipping it on line. They sweep in, buy up everything in sight and double (at least) the price on line where folks who are low/out are panicked into paying the rip off prices.
Capitalism at its worst.
Yes, I think it sucks.............JMHO
I'm trying to stock up for Appleseed in May. I've accumulated 240 rounds of .223/5.56 but I need/want to get to 2k. I have a few hundred rounds of 22 ammo but it's a mixed bag. I can't seem to find any match grade ammo for the CZ but fortunately I'm planning on taking the LVT but I would still like to be able to run the same ammo throughout the entire event.
So to answer your question, my current lot is going to practice and a little hoarding but only for Appleseed.
I was lucky too. I don't mean to brag, but I am pleased that I spent several hundred dollars on ammo last year. I bought dozens of bulk packs every darn time it was under $20. I bought 10 or more 9mm boxes whenever I found it for $10 a box. I bought a couple boxes of 30-30, and 30-06 whenever budget brands had free shipping. I kept snagging 10 boxes of PMC .223 when it was $6 a box too, even though I didn't need it (especially w/free ship)
Then, when things went South, I simply stopped buying ammo, and bought a Lee press. Now, even if I never buy more factory ammo, I should be set for life, in theory--if I can buy powder, primers, and projectiles. Just to be safe, I tried to get a few thousand rounds worth of that stuff too. I am very happy to be in such a good position, but I must say it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the fine folks here at INGO keeping me up to speed on the situation.
Did I spend too much? YES. I got in the dog house big time. Do I regret it now? Nooooooooo wayyyyyyyy. I don't think prices will ever go quite back to 2012 levels, ever. And if they do, I will buy more probably, just as an investment.
I am buying because I didn't have any to start out with. I will not pay more then what is reasonable for what I need. I did have to pay about 10 more for 22lr for rimfire madness season coming up.
Where is all the ammo going? Into the long-term storage containers of untold numbers of people who fear that our ability to purchase ammunition may be curtailed by "unwise" leaders. There is even a subset of Americans out there who are purchasing large quantities of ammo because they fear a violent uprising may be in our future.
I think both scenarios are highly unlikely and that the panic buying is entirely unnecessary. I can't help but wonder how many millions of rounds have been hidden away that will never again see the light of day, let alone be fired through a gun. Our political leaders have created a portion of the panic, but far too many Americans have bought into it, whole-hog!
Now, if it turns out they were right on either count, many of us will wish we'd bought as much as we could, when we had the chance. I sincerely hope it never comes to that and we see prices come down as demand is finally satisfied and supply recovers.
I have plenty of .40 and 20ga. But I am low on .223 and .22lr and not willing to pay exorbitant prices. I think most of this is caused by speculators, hope it goes back down to something reasonable in the near future.
First three and shooting as always were my choices. I am having some trouble with finding some of the bullets I want but they are for anything I'm not willing to do without for a while. I admit, for kicks I'd like to load up the 500 empty AK brass I have but these are some f the can't find bullets items. Once the weather is warm and easier to guess, I will cast some of these plus all the other bullets I shot al the time.
Essentially, I am fine. I am even doing what I can to sel off some of my extra stuff for regular prices in an attempt to make al of this end.
I think all of this is being caused by the flippers and when they all die from lead poisoning, things will be just fine. Hope they all die soon.
I shot most of my supply before December with an outing of friends. 22lr and 9mm. Waited a little to long to restock. I have scored some bulk packs of 22 and about 300 rounds of 9mm that I have found around town. I think I'll just shoot what I buy at the range for the time being.
I had my LTCH before all of this nonsense, but not handgun. So I arrived late to the party. I picked the grasshopper option, but I'm mostly buying ammo online when it's close to being reasonable.
I stocked my pantry a little at a time after Omama was elected the first time.
I have seen ALL the socialists and power mongers try this time and again.
I was hoping this would be a "flash in the pan" but it looks to be hanging on waiting for the legislators to bring this pimple to a head.
