3D printing will change the world.

It will be one of those inventions that changes life on earth, like the light bulb, the internal combustion engine, the original printing press etc.

    We ain't seen nothin' yet.

It's a beautiful, disruptive technology. The copymachine, the internet, the new copymachine, the next copymachine. "Truth will out, it cannot be contained." - Robert Frost

Still waiting on the first 3D-printed house. The first 3D-printed white picket fence. (The first 3D-printed car that I'm aware of was a replica of an Aston-Martin.)

There are ones that print in ceramic and metal, not just plastic. Someone has gotten a few rounds through a plastic gun, but someone else has a few hundred through a 3d printed 1911. Replacement body parts, aerospace parts, things that can't be made any other way, are coming off these printers. When they were first coming out, we called them "Santa Claus machines". It's an apt description.

It's hard to fathom the impact 3D printing can have. Not only can you produce what does not exist, but you can recreate that stuff that did exist, but no longer does. Restoring a 1934 BMW 315 and need the handle to operate the wipers? No problem, if you have a photo of one and can design the replacement from it, you can recreate it. The medical uses are just beginning. With 3D scanning added in, you can reproduce replacement parts in steel if the original plastic part failed.

Should check out a documentary available online for free called "Will work for free". The 3d printed house is on it's way. Can't remeber the name of the company offhand.

pretty sure i read something about a 3d printer that makes pizza.....so....there is also that....

3D printers are pretty slick. I have also heard of "food printers". The idea that you could pay for an electronic recipe to be sent to you online and have a dinner made for you out of a variety of edible "ink tanks" is enticing. Also sad...but still enticing.

    Chocoalate printers for custom lettering

FDA has a big hand in regulating this stuff I'm sure. They have made custom trache tubes for people with weird anatomy too. The stuff we had made wasn't "food safe" even, can't imagine what you have to do for medical-grade compliance.
