    I would say your dads Krag was made in 1901, when it became a carbine is the real question..

    We're not even sure when or how Grandpa came to be in possession of the Krag. We figure it was in trade for mechanic work since that's something he was known to do (got his Cub Cadet lawnmower that way too). He gave it to Dad with the understanding it would stay in the family, Dad didn't ask about the gun's history.
