I am looking to get into the M1a thing and wondering what to look for. I am looking for decent accuracy but not wanting to mortgage the house either. accuracy being what it is I am looking for 1"-1.5" at 100 yards with factory ammo, i would expect a little better if hand-loads were used. M21 is probably out but looking at either the loaded (walnut blued) or national match (also walnut blued or possibly walnut stainless). Suggestions and information is appreciated.

The rifles mentioned are in the $1500 - $2000 price range I would rather not hit the $2000 mark but I can save my pennies a little longer if needed. And yes match ammo or high quality hunting ammo. I usually load my own and use 168 gr Sierras (I know some don't like them but I have had good luck so far)

I guess my main questions are on components used in these rifles. Are they primarily the same or do they use different parts? op rods, barrels, trigger assy, etc? Thanks

That being said I just got a SAI standard and am very happy with it
The NM will have different sights(NM sights) but my standard came with a NM front sight, The trigger group will have NM parts, the barrel will be NM, Op rod, stock. Plus a lot more.
If your mostly shooting 100 yrds I'd just pick up a standard and use the money you save for ammo and mags.

Ok, the standard Springfield M1A has a MOA around 3.. The Loaded has about 2-1 1/2 and the Natonal Match is around 1 MOA. The Super Match is Sub MOA...

With a Loaded M1A and about $400 plus a good scope you can get 1 1/2-1MOA groups. That covers a good scope base, NM Spring Guide, NM Gas Piston, Shim Kit. You might do better after that by bedding the stock or buying a Sage or Troy stock.

Im doing a YouTube video on this subject as we speak.

The M14 forum is where I went to learn. Check out LRB, probably one of the best makers...lots to learn. Depends on your budget.

The only Springfield M1a I ever owned was a Supermatch. It was Camo green because every other color was backordered. The Rifle was very accurate at the 200, 300, and 600 yard National Match course ranges right out of the box. By replacing the front sight with one that was ground down to be only .080 tall, and using 175 grain Matchkings, the rifle was competitive at 800,900,1000 yard PALMA class shooting. Yes, it cost a ton of money, but it actually performed Very well in all of the uses I needed it to with only normal maintenance. It was worth every penny.

I was firing 4-shot groups at 100 yds with my Loaded that I covered with a dime using 150gr Winchester Power Points. I did hand lap the bore before shooting though.

Anytime, by next week I should have a new M1A video on upgrades and accuracy.

Im taking a Loaded National Match and upgrading the Spring Guide, Gas Piston, Shim kit and a few extras.

Looking forward to it. Bought my first M1A this week. Seems like I've owned everything else so far, so it's time to join the club. I've owned a mini-14 for years, so it has been a pretty easy transition so far.

The video will be delayed about a week. I ordered my NM Piston and NM Spring Guide and a few other parts from Desert Tactical over a week ago because there website showed they had everything I wanted in-stock. Still hasn't shown up so I emailed them and today I got a responce saying that a few of the things I ordered are out of stock and it maybe another week before they even get it in-stock...

I really wish online stores would update what there and whats not more often.. :noway:

Oh, may I inquire to what Make and Model? :rockwoot:

Socom II in urban Camo :ar15:. Currently running an Eotech 552, but I plan on putting an Aimpoint CCO on it. I have only ran a couple mags through it so far, but I'm already in love. IMO, big improvement over my former FAL. Heres some pics.

And yes, it's the same little INGO whore that has been passed around in the classifieds lately. Luckily for her, we're getting married.
