I respect what those guys did to launch metal where it is today, but I'm more into the post-hardcore scene. Here's a few of my favorites. The first two are local. Both Indy area. Haste the day has since disbanded.

    Enjoy the chugging

    COOOOKIIIEEEE!!!

    Another old school metalhead here.
I can't stand the "Cookie Monster vocals" of some bands. It just seems laughable.

Played in several bands the past couple decades. Got burned out on performing. Taking a break, haven't listened to any music for 6 months. Was last into bands like:

    Clutch
    Weed eater
    Kyuss
    Sleep
    Ahab
    High on fire
    Fu Manchu
    Electric wizard
    Unida
    Acid king
    Bongzilla

    Old faves:
    Iron maiden
    Pink Floyd
    The doors
    Black sabbath
    Metallica (pre-black album)
    Old slayer
    Tool
    Alice in chains
    Nin
    White zombie
    Corrosion of conformity
    Pantera
    Etc, etc.

    Some Bands I've opened for:

    Queensryche
    Eye hate god
    White zombie
    Pantera
    Clutch
    ?????

Memory fails me on all the others over the years.....

Inspired by the rap/hip hop thread..

Seems the older I get, the HEAVIER I like my music.. I love Old Metallica, Queensryche, Kamelot, Scar Symmetry, Dream Theater, Lacuna Coil..

    Anyone else?

Heavy Metal and Dream Theater in the same sentence...DT is progressive rock...Portnoy & Petrucci are incredible...although things aren't the same with Petrucci gone.

Queensryche is great, Goeff Tate is arguably the best vocalist in the biz.

Metallica...Kell em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, ...and justice for all.....great albums...down hill from there....after Cliff died...so did the band

I'll name some of my favs

    Maiden
    Saxon
    Quiet Riot
    Dokken
    Ratt
    WASP
    Stormtroopers of Death
    Exploited
    Slayer
    Megadeth
    Testament
    Overkill
    Ministry
    Pantera
    Sepultura
    Cannibal Corpse
    Suicidal Tendencies
    DRI
    King Crimson
    Symphony X

Dream Theater my not be a "metal band", but they are a band that sometimes plays metal.
    As I Am
    Dark Eternal Night
    Endless Sacrifice
    Honor Thy Father
    Glass Prison
    Panic Attack

Oh, and it's Portnoy that is gone, not Petrucci :D

Sadly Tate isn't sounding so hot lately, and they band had a meltdown and split into two versions.. One with Tate and a new band, one with the band, and a new vocalist, Todd LaTorre from Crimson Glory..
