    That is a 7.62 x 51 blank called an M82. It was designed for use in the M60 machine gun because the star crimped blanks had a bad tendency to jam in the M60.
    It was not designed to fire grenades. The double tapered, bottle nose neck is what identifies the M82.
    I have a few hundred of these in belts on M13 links.

    I would agree. I had a large belt of those same M60 machine gun blanks displayed for quite some time.
