You could get a Stag Model 8 or Ruger SR 556, change grip and stock, and have basically the same gun plus money left over for an ACOG, extra mags, and a bunch of ammo.

Those Stag rifles are really nice! Shows how new I am to the AR scene, I hadn't seen them before...

On a side note(without starting a new thread), what is a 6.8 spc? Is that between a .223 and a 7.62 round? Sorry for what are sure to be stupid questions, I just started looking into AR's a few months ago.

the 6.8 bridges the gap between the 5.56 and 7.62x51 and supposedly will replace 5.56 eventually(not for a really long time) I think its like a shortened .280 British round used in the early sa80

While I agree that HK is extracting a ridiculous price for the MR556 and am sure that an equally solid Piston AR could be had for quite a bit less, the original 416 has been VERY well received by the SOF types currently employing it.

Marines have also deployed a variant in limited numbers.

Good thread with shots of 416 "users"

Oh and I still REALLY REALLY want one!

    This.
I agree that it's a pretty neat looking rifle, but I could never justify the cost. I do like the sights the put on it, though. I wonder if they'll offer those seperately.

If you gave it to me, I would sell it and keep the 3K.

It doesnt FOR ME do anything my regular old DI ARs dont.

On top of that its butt ugly and the sights are goofy.

It is not anywhere NEAR the top of my want list.

    "H&K, because we hate you!"

There are plenty other AR variants to choose from built by companies who care about the people who buy their products.

No way I'd pay what H&K wants for that.

You can buy an LWRC piston upper in 5.56NATO or 6.8SPC and swap it out with your existing upper.
Or buy a lower and add the LWRC piston upper to it, and have a rifle of comparable functionality and reliability at a much lower price.

I have 16" 5.56 and a 6.8 LWRC piston uppers, and they are sweet.
They also come in shorter versions.

Don't know about anyone else, but my M & P Model A is a sweet shooter and after rebate was only $900 when I bought it several years ago.

Ugly..expensive...won't do anything any other AR will do.
If I were to drop that kind of money I would get an ACR or a SCAR.
As far as AR's for that kind of jack, I would get an LWRC or LMT. and have some money left over for accessories. Just my :twocents:.
