Apparently, Denmark isn't the paradise the socialists claim.

A gallon of gas in Denmark, not liters? That's about when exact moment the red flag went up. Danes pay the equivalent of around $6 dollars for petrol. That glaring inaccuracy (that l know from experience) told me all I needed to know about that graphic.

Presently they are paying about $6.25 per gallon.
We're paying what $2 per gallon?
But what was it in the fall? 50 percent higher, or more?

I'm in no way supporting/condoning socialism, but if you sat down and looked at the total of all the taxes we pay and factor in health insurance/co- pay deductibles etc.... many of you might find yourself envious of a 55% rate. I spent over 20% of my income on healthcare in 2014. Factor in income tax (fed, state, local), sales tax, excise tax, plates/registration fees, property tax, and so on. Seriously, they nickel and dime you to death here. These "the tax rate is so high in these nations" stories we hear never address the fact that this rate is the only tax these people pay.

I don't know anything about Denmark. But Canada is one that is often trotted out as an example. I have a friend that lives in Toronto, I'd wager he pays less in taxes/fees then I do overall.

The Denmark data probably was cherry picked. Meme authors often do this to get the most impact out of their efforts. But a quick Google search showed gas prices in Denmark were indeed quite close enough to $10/gallon at one point that I can forgive them for rounding up. (Besides, can you really buy a Honda Accord for $20K? I ddin't check that one).

I stand corrected. Apologies to Actaeon.

I guess you can buy a low trim level Honda for slightly above $20K. I don't know when that meme was written but I can easily imagine $3k worth of price increases in a year or two. (GFGT has no idea how much a Honda dealer will come down from MSRP. You might well indeed still be able to get an Accord for right around $20K now).

The American medical system is built to extract the most money from the most Americans, taken by the most people. It is a fleecing operation. Our health care system is the biggest example of crony capitalism on the planet.

Health insurance, would be affordable if it was truly insurance, like car insurance, we pay for day to day up keep and they pay for catastrophic events.

    Anti-depressents?

Although funny, it's probably not true.

I think Danes are "happier" because they are much more homogeneous. Also, there aren't all that many of them. In the US, we're very diverse, and there are a **** ton of us, most living in urban areas. With so many people living in close proximity, there are enough people such that we don't all agree on most everything. We disagree on freedoms we should have, on laws we should impose. Ban outside burning! Wait, I like having a pit fire in the back yard on a warm summer evening.

If we were all more like each other, more homogeneous, I imagine we'd probably be happier. For example, if everyone loved guns, no one would be unhappy about lax gun laws. Or if everyone hated armed citizens, no one would be unhappy about laws forbidding armed citizens.

Diversity doesn't make people happy. It makes people more at odds with each other. Socialism isn't going to fix unhappiness any more than it caused the Danes to be so happy.

the American medical system is built to extract the most money from government that it can. Private insurers and individuals without insurance are casualties of war.

For all the taxes and such, Denmark continues to rank as the happiest country on the planet. They must have something going for them.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/17/world/europe/denmark-world-happiness-report.html

A high anti-depressant rate, a high suicide rate (eliminating those unhappy people from the surveys), a high level of national pride (what a concept) and the total inability of any statistical model to measure happiness in any reliable fashion. Yeah, they've got those things going for it.

Denmark has a higher use of anti-depressants, yet their suicide rate is something like double ours. I'd hardly call that "happier"
