I have started doing some research and am considering building an AR-10 sniper rifle in .308. In researching this weapon, I find reference to numerous calibers such as .308, 7.62 NATO, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, and 7.62x54r. What is the difference in these 7.62 calibers and will they all fit the .308? Any information and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

X39 and x54r are very different rounds than 308. 308 is rated at a higher pressure than 7.62 nato/7.62x51. Its usually safe to shoot x51 in a .308 but not necessarily the other way around. 7.62 nato and 7.62x51 are the same thing.

Had the same intuition, I just picked up a DPMS lr-308. From the research I had done, it is the most accurate out of the box AR10 going for the $.

PS. I wanted to send it away to have it threaded for my supressor before I get it sighted in. I also am going to put new trigger springs in too.
