Poll for those out there who have built their AR's at home.. Mil-spec torque on the castle nut is right around 40lb-ft. I have the Truglo AR wrench, and snugged mine down pretty tight, and am considering simply staking it as is.

How many of you use the mil-spec...specs, vs. the "tight-is-tight" method, and stake from there?

I spec my barrel nut because that quite important. But I change out pins and parts enough that I've not staked my buffer tube. If I was absolutely sure I wouldn't be changing parts, I would just do the "tight enough" snugging it down and hit it with a punch

The barrel nut I definitely understand. In my case I went with a complete upper. The castle nut seems to be more of a personal take. I'm leaning heavily towards the "tight is tight" + stake.

I rushed, and in a fleeting moment of absolute stupidity/carelessness, installed the trigger guard upside down (detent facing the blank side). Ended up cutting the guard to remove it. Excuse to upgrade to a BCM trigger guard and pistol grip.

Also ordered the Romeo, a few D&H mags, and another BCG for a future project. I'll snap a quick picture when it's all together, although everyone's seen a stock PSA AR already...

Rage of an Angry Kirk continues, re-fitting of old AR-15s tonight. Until it is replaced by Gauss Guns and lasers my family will have AR-15s for generation upon generation.

Red Jacket Katana, CTR stock, ALG-ACT trigger, Troy BUIS, Duckbill grip

The culmination of my budget 10.5 PSA build. (Please excuse the terrible photo, and the lurking mountain lion...he thinks it's for him)

Physician bought a defunct gun store and sold off inventory at killer prices. I got this. And now we start a run of AR-10s/SR-25s/M110ish platform. Not as many but several.

SIG716 Gen II. I have exactly ONE magazine. Going to remedy that.:D

Please excuse the stock picture. This is more of a tell than a show.

I went out to pick up 'stuff' in the yard. One of the dogs had a pair of socks in her 'stuff'. They were a matching pair but they got separated. How did they get separated?:dunno:

It got dark so I had to go in and get a flashlight. Then I stepped on something and I knew exactly what it was without looking. It was soft. I've stepped on this before. So I lifted my toe and looked on the ground and it was exactly the stuff I thought it was.

I finish up and try to grab the bucket while holding the flashlight so I don't have to walk back in the dark. You know, just in case. I tipped the bucket over and I lost a bunch of stuff. So I continue on, wipe my shoes off, and I have one more thing to do.

I want to check the box of a rifle I got last week because I forgot to record the serial number. The box was easier to get to than the rifle, so I snap a picture of it with my phone. To my surprise, it's number 334. It's the Brownells AR10 retro rifle with the charging handle inside the carry handle. It's not what I thought I ordered. I wanted the brown one with the ribbed barrel, and that's what the picture showed. But it had a drop down menu to choose between the one in the picture or the standard unfancy black one, and the menu defaults to black. Well I assumed the model number was the one in the picture.

At least I got it at a sale price. And before it's even delivered, I get an email that it's on sale for $120.00 cheaper. It's pretty much the same email I got when I bought the Retro M16 a couple weeks ago. In transit, but now they slashed the price. I really think they're trying to have a good joke at my expense.

So when I picked up the rifle at Bob's, my ffl who puts up with me and all my paperwork, I look in the box and it's the black one. I didn't even take it out of the plastic. Bob asked me if I'm going to check it out. Knowing I paid too much and got the wrong rifle, I said I'll look at it when I get home. But tonight, even though I had to deal with a lot of stuff, I'm feeling pretty good about serial number 334.

I reconfigured one of my ARs recently to make it a bit lighter and am happy with the end product. It’s a fun shooter set up like this.

I picked this one up last spring. It is an absolute hoot with a binary trigger in it now. It’s a Troy XM177E2 clone. The Safe-Semi-Auto now functions almost as it was intended to.

This is the first AR I bought back in 2009. It’s an M&P15OR. It was actually the California approved version that came with a fixed stock, no flash hider and 10 round mag. The stock and mags were easy fixes but I still need to get it out to AllenM to have it threaded for a comp.
