I am curious where this coutry would be at this point if a couple things had been just slightly different. Lets say over the last 10 years the video game "death race 2000" had been the popular choice of children instead of "call of duty". So now these past 4 men that have commited these terrible acts had chosen the vehicle of choice from their video game, 4wd F-350's with terra tires, you know those big agressive mudders aka "30 rounders". Lets say they ran over masses of children. Where would the public, Obama and Feinstein be.
The family with a prius in the driveway sees absolutly no reason to own a truck like that, you need a car but not a big heavy truck. The lady that has always riden the bus sees no reason to own any vehicle of any type, they are just to dangerous. We are not anywhere around the second ammendment now. Would the public and the government be talking about resticting our abillity to own a F-350 4wd with big tires ? You don't need a vehicle like that ! Maybe they will only allow stock tires aka "10 rounders" ? Ban trucks aka "assault guns" ?....Hell No ! They would be looking at the driver of the truck and addressing the issue at hand.

Oh no, they would go back on their anti-truck/anti-suv tirade and make everyone drive small cars because trucks would be regulated and taxed higher than anything else.

Welcome to America, you must be new here.

Dave-O that is a good analogy.

I have said repeatedly this anti gun argument is akin to , blaming Ford/Chevy/Dodge, for drunk driving crashes that kill children.

Sadly drunk drivers kill children everyday, where is the national media outrage for this type of daily tragedy?

I am all for a meaningful effective change to put a dent in this problem, but lets identify the problem, the shooter, not the weapon, single shot or assault.
If I left a loaded gun in the bed of a truck outside a school and something happened I would be held liable and responsible, likely sued. If I left the keys in my truck same scenerio. Why can't they impose a simple law law that would make a change immediatly. Who among us when we saw the latest tradgedy did not expext that when the shooter was identified it would be, troubled child, non social, a.d.d., medicated, aggressive, etc. I would not expect a parent to have their child locked up, institutionalized but I do think being the path the children of the furure seem to be on it is a very reasonable expectation of mine that if you have a child with anger issues or a child that has to be medicated to stay under control that you to call a number set up in conjuction with nics to place this child on. If you should decide not to do as such. I can hold you liable and take all your possesions if this troubled child decides to kill down the road. I bet the phone would ring off the hook. Why can't that number be expanded outside the house for voluntary tips. How many teachers see these children in the classroom and cringe at the future of these children. My sister had one last year in a class, everyone in the school feared this child but could do nothing. Why can't a hotline be set up to put these children on the nics list, I am not advocating everyone can call and damage an innocent childs future as we all know would happen but why can't the school principal call or the childs doctor that is aware of these issues, if their name pops up at 18 when they go to buy guns they will go under the microscope before owning a weapon. That is stepping up to the plate, accepting responsibillity, making a difference. Doctors and principles doing it for the good and safety of your community and parents calling for fear of being held liable for damages. I would wager that if something like this were in place the wealty seperated father or the mother living in the very well to do house would have considered this simple non damaging to the child option. This young man was like leaving a loaded gun on the sidewalk. Everyone saw it and walked right past it. Why is it ok to come out the next day after a mass shooting and say "oh yea we saw it comming" ????

Part "b" is responsible firearm securement to keep these disturbed people from obtaining firearms before they buy their own. If I leave a loaded gun on the sidewalk I am going to be held liable. If you have someone in your house that has anger issues, medicated or mental issues, you are responsible for securing the firearms you own or you should be held liable. It should not be ok for CNN to stick a microphone in your face the next day and have you say I saw it comming. As I recall this was the situation in the Jarred Laughner case, his father even chased him across the desert.

Irresponsible people around these ticking time bombs is an issue to be addressed.

To their credit they tried banning alchohol in the 20's and look what it got us. Prohibition was directly responsible for the gangsters and the subsequent federal interference into state law enforcement we are faced with today including the NFA, FBI, ATF, DEA etc etc.

It failed -miserably- and they repealed it. Just imagine the chaos that would insue from trying to ban guns.

I think that back in the 20s people were reasonable enough to see the connections. Today, I don't know if the Anti-Rights crowd would admit the failure, or if the American people would be able to figure out that it's not working.

Today,..the American people would be able to figure out that it's not working.

After reading many of the comments about the stories online, I think the American people are morons. They would rather let some news person fill them fill of crap and go back to watching their 'reallity' TV.

Where ever my GPS says I am
There is someone at work that is not against gun control, but just doesn't like them and own one. While talking, I used the analogy to compare the AR 15 type rifle to something else that if I a Corvette that can do 210mph, that doesn't mean all Corvette owners will do 210mph.

It is constantly amazing me the road that a vast populus of the U.S. go down, the politicitions I get, I don't like but I get, they were elected by the idiots going down the road. Jumping topic for a breif second but somewhat on topic. Arizona screamed bloody murder what 2 years ago that the Illegal immigrants comming across our southern border would be the death of this country and we needed laws and enforcement of those laws and the existing laws on the books. How many people ran from that subject because they did not want to hurt juans feelings and how many politicians killed it for fear of hurting their caucus of illegal immigrants, Back on topic. How many illegal alliens have killed in the last 2 years and how many of those deaths have been children, I bet it exceeds 20. I also bet we get more gun control and restrictions on law abiding U.S. citizens before we have any control on illegal immigrants raping and killing in this country.

My favorite analogy goes something like..."Should we ban high-capacity digital memory cards for digital cameras when a pedophile gets busted for child pornography? No one NEEDS 30 gigs worth of memory...those memory cards were specifically designed for only one purpose, child pornography."
