I've shot about 300 rounds of various .22LR through an M-261 conversion kit in a new complete upper made by a reputable manufacturer. When I switched to 5.56 surplus ammo, I found that the rifle would not cycle and determined that the gas port was likely leaded closed.
The manufacturer suggested that I clean the bore and single-fire the rifle until the port cleared and the bolt cycled.
I did that and with about 50 rounds fired the rifle was working well.
Is there a way to do this without all of the single shots?
