There were stacks like this at several tables at the AcuSport New Product Shoot... S&W, Daniel Defense, Remington, AAC, CORE15 and DPMS all had guns on-hand in that caliber. Lotta Blackout love goin' on.

So I've heard of several people running their 9mm pistol silencers with 300 BLK but ONLY SUBSONIC! Has anyone here tried that? I'm gonna if my friggin stamps ever show up. My problem will be going from a 3 lug suppressor to the correct threads. This might hold me over until I can get a real rifle compatible 30 cal can.

I shot my Isis on my 16" AR with subs. I was advised that was the max for it, no super sOnics and nothing shorter than 16". I haven't got my stamp back yet do it was only a short session. I'm thinking it'll be pretty cool on the Stevens bolt gun I'm going to build as soon as the barrel shows up.

Just loaded up my first reloads tonight. Will update with pictures soon. I hope to have some preliminary range results this weekend, bearing in mind that ambient conditions won't be ideal for a true measure of performance.

    (left to right)
    1) 208gr Hornady AMAX Ballistic Tip over 9.5gr H110.
    2) 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip over 17.5gr H110
    3) 147gr .308 Nato puled FMJ over 17.0gr H110
    4) Sample .223 with 55gr FMJ for comparison

    300BLK.jpg

Goal is to start light and see where I am, then push towards pressure signs once the weather warms up this spring. Would like to see 2100FPS out of the 125, and 2000FPS from the 147. Nosler recommends minimum of 1800FPS for expansion on this, with best performance at greater than 2600FPS (not gonna happen with the 300BLK.)

Goal with the AMAX is to keep subsonic. I may make a few "fun" rounds with this bullet and see what max velocity is before pressure is too great. I would imagine that 1200FPS would be possible.

It will be a while till the can comes in, so for now the 208's will see limited use. Expect that the 147's will be the plinking load due to cost and ease of availability.

Got a chance to get out today and test fire the new loads, with some intersting results.

    1) The load I worked up for the 208's was in the 1300FPS range...way over the intended 1050FPS range.

    2) The 125gr results were far above my expectations. I was getting nearly 2500FPS from the load. Excellent performance against pop cans full of water, and better yet, againts milk jugs full of water. Regular 147gr FMJ's were punching right through and leaving nice holes, but the 125's were much more explosive.

    3) The 147gr load was very low...below 2100FPS. I had a few that did push 2300, so need to figure out what happened there. Clealry a diferent charge weight to see nearly 250FPS difference, but not sure what happend, as the others were so much more consistent.

    ETA:

I think I figured out the reason the 208 ands 125 were faster than expected. I can't confirm, but think the load data I used was based on a shorter barrel than my 16" barrel. That doesn't explain the slower speed on the 147, but may account for why the 208 and 125 were each about 300FPS faster than I expected.

Video of the 125gr Nosler Ballistic tip vs. a Diet Coke Can, a 1 gallon OJ jug, and a piece of Bobcat steel at 50yds.

OJ jug aftermath. Notice the nice .30 cal hole in the front, and the blow out sides and back. The 147s were going right through with little damage to the jug, as were the .208s.

The real value of 300BLK isn't solely in its ballistics, but in its versatility and adaptability.

As you pointed out, there are other harder hitting or more accurate rounds out there. But how many of those work with your current 5.56 AR's bolt, magazines, buffer, and only requires a barrel swap?

I wasn't hating by any means:-) That is still the reason I want to build one later. I like having just the upper while still saving $200 on another BCG. IMHO the 300ACBLK would be the perfect Suppressed 10.5 SBR

I was just pointing out, that if you were looking for 308 caliber performance without having to go to a separate AR10 platform, the 30 AR is a great round.

Working on some cast loads. I had some 180's so I loaded 50 of them, and last night cast some from a heavier mould. Sized, Lubed and gas checked they weighed in at 223 gr! I'm hoping they work, as they are MUCH cheaper than the 220 SMK's!

I hand cycled a few from a full mag and seems to be ok. I only loaded 50 rounds total so if they don't work I'll just pull em down.

I have a boltgun project in the works. Just waiting on my barrel...

I wish I had the money to get one too. So it works with the AR15 lower like the 458 socom? I just want to have something in between the 458 and the 5.56. The 308 would require a whole new lower.

Yep, works with the standard lower, mags, bolt & carrier, etc. All you need is a barrel chambered for it and your in business. :rockwoot:

You meant just take the 5.56 barrel off and put the 300blk barrel in? That's all? No need to whole upper?

The barrel is the only thing that is a non-5.56 compatible component. Now, "taking the 5.56 barrel off and putting the .300BLK barrel in" is easier said than done; an upper swap would be FAR more practical (although you could use your existing 5.56 bolt carrier group and charging handle if you chose to do so).

That's what I am afraid off, I don't have the muscle or knowledge to take upper apart. Well, guess I have to wait until I save enough to get something nice to have but not needed.
