I oil an AR every time I shoot. They like to run a little wet. I have found, that if you keep them oiled, the cleanliness/reliability issues are not as prevelant if they are present at all. That is, if youre using decent ammo. I took my M4 600 rds with no cleaning at all and just a little oit without a hiccup.

Depending on how many rounds I fire through my AR10 I will break the bolt carrier compltetly down. I like to oil it all even put some rem oil on the charging handle. But if I am firing 10 rounds I won't bother with it. Hope this helps. :ar15:

I only did quick wipe downs, and used Mobil 1 20w50 on the bolt/carrier. Same viscosity, way cheaper. I had no problems over about 2k rounds, before I went back to the AK.
