It's really been going downhill since WWII. Each generation has allowed or pushed more responsibility for raising their children towards the state and electronics. First it was let the TV occupy your child, then video games, and now it is mobile devices.

We all need to remember that WE THE PEOPLE are the ones that elect our representatives into office. We are a Representative Republic. We have to let our elected representatives know why we elected them and how they are to vote to represent us. If the choose not to vote as to how we have contacted them and let them know what we want ... tell them they will loose your vote.

Well let’s look at one parties platform for 2020

    1. Lower voting age

    2. Abandoning the electoral college

    3. Reparations

    4. Free college

    5. Free health care

    6. Guaranteed income $500 to $1000 a month

    7. New Green Deal

    8. Assault Weapon ban

    9. Reenter the Paris agreement

    10. Free child care

I would think a repealing the 2nd Amendment or gutting it would be a real possibility if you look at the platform.

This is about changing the government and the rules not about the government as it is now.

One has to think that President Obama would be considered a far right blue dog by today’s standard.

I hope whoever wins will support the Paris agreement. That shouldn’t be a left/right dogma fight. Where’s Teddy Roosevelt when we need him?

    Hi there.
The answer to your question is "no".
I say yeah because (1) I understand the goals and the forces aligned to make it happen and (2) I've read how this ends up and (3) things are just a'clicking along faster all the time.
Does it happen in my lifetime? Don't know, my crystal ball isn't a Timex. But the wife was concerned so we had that discussion to leave no doubt as to what the priorities are.

You might want to look up Isaac Davis. You've seen him before, "the Minuteman", an iconic image. Or, better yet, go to a Revere's Riders event and learn about him. He was the first officer to die in the Revolutionary War. Let's just say his priorities were in order.

Civics lesson: Even without the Second Amendment, we'll still have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms - it just won't be specifically enumerated.

The Right to Bear Arms is not given by any government. It is a God-given right of man to protect himself and his family and possessions.

The 2nd Amendment does not give us anything. It is simply a law to prevent government from attempting to infringe our rights.

Your rights are your rights. What you do with them are up to you. If you surrender your rights that is your choice. If you defend your rights, that is your choice too. But the choice is yours.

I like and subscribe to that mentality.

Realistically though, there are more and more that DO NOT believe in God. Sadly, these folks are elected and appointed to positions of authority in higher numbers every day...

And that is what scares the daylight out of me. The "WE"........who is the "we"?

Look at what is going on in this country. Look where we came from to where we are today. The "we" would frequently say...."nah, that will never happen here, this is the USA!"; all while it was happening.

Indoctrinating in all levels of education. Politicians who saw one thing and actually do another - and surprisingly they get elected AGAIN AND AGAIN. Cities and states making her own gun laws, so bizarre that when challenged in court, it's reduced to a "smaller" gun ban, less significant because of compromise. A man can marry a man and it's forced on society! You and your business is bankrupt because of legal fees when you stand for your religion and not bake a cake for a gay marriage. A child cannot say "bang bang" in a classroom without being suspended and sent for counseling! Dare not eat a Pop Tart into a shape of a gun - you can be kick out of grade school! Americans are electing muslim politicians into local, state and federal positions and these people are refusing to be sworn in on a bible. If you are a white individual, regardless of anything, you are a privileged individual and basically a racist. If you are patriotic, putting your country first, you are white nationalist (just happened to me 3 days ago). The democratic party (of no more) is now a blatant anti-American socialist party that wants to remove our constitution!

Oh, let's not forget, Trump had to write an EO to have free speech on college campuses. YEP, in the USA!

SO MANY MORE.....all because "we" allow them. The socialists (we have no more demoncrats) want to dilute our country in order to dilute the "we"; and in doing so will get the job done. Don't say it cannot happen; it's going on as I write this post. It's called a bloodless coup; and it's real. I pray not, but if a drop of blood is ever shed and caused from any of the "we", "they" will have the excuse, the reason and the backing to "take them" from us. I pray "we" stand together and prevent this by our votes and voices and not anyone's blood. We need to keep this administration in office......it's our only hope for now.

When it is said, "If WE allow them"; I get concerned.

Exactly!!! Who is this "WE" thing spoken of.
There's no way a group of people could gather to discuss, much less protect this country without a Govt knowing about it.
There's strength in numbers but the individual is vulnerable to the power of the state.
As far as the population raising enough vocal displeasure??? Well, it's been my experience that not many people really give a **** about much of anything.
3% comeback? Guess something like that might have to resurrect itself to make the difference.
In this setting which we live I would hope that our Law Enforcement Officers would take the first stand and give the Patriots time to organize to remedy the intruders.

First off, let's review the entirety of my post you quoted:

Freedom to bear arms for self-defense was in the English Bill of Rights, signed into law in 1689. We all saw how that worked out. To quote a former gun owner in Great Britain, "We all stayed home and expected somebody to tell the truth. No one did."

We must remain vigilant, we must remain active. The antis have an endless supply of useful idiots and dug-in political operatives. They also have 95% of the media and 99% of academia at the post-secondary level.

We have us. I've seen first-hand what it looks like when we show up, it is a sight to behold.

To answer the question in the thread title: only if we allow it to happen.

I'm really glad you're concerned about my use of the pronoun "we". Actually I'm not, you missed the point. "We", as in "We the people..." or better yet "LAWFUL GUN OWNERS". The Brits had their version of 2A dating back to 1689, what do they have now?

Put another way, get the **** over my use of pronouns and try to get the ****ing point of what I'm ****ing saying. Save it for "they" who think New Zealand is on the right path. If WE lose what WE have, it's on US.

I don't necessarily think this is true. I don't believe in God, but I also understand that self-defense is an unalienable right and one not provided by man or government.

Call it a God given right, call it a natural right, call it a human right. No matter how it's phrased, even atheists are capable of understanding the concept.

In a word, yes. And probably in my lifetime. I see it was being inevitable that we lose our gun rights. Yes it's in the constitution, but one party openly hates and wants to abolish the constitution. They also seem to be gaining a ton of popularity every election. All it will take is that party having a majority and then the proper "event" and our rights will be gone within a year. They don't care. It's only a means to their end.

I can certainly understand this view. My view is that without God there can be no true freedom, because all that is then left is the ability of some men to dominate others, and the only protection against that would then be self-defense. There is no underlying truth that man supports the free being that man is naturally created as. Without God there is no truth, and no underlying basis for any law, and law begins to lose its meaning, as we can see happening with the legalized slaughter of children today, and even adults in some countries.

Today? There has been legalized or sanctioned slaughter throughout human history. The excuses may change, but that fact remains. That has been true across the globe no matter the religious views of the people, with very few groups not participating in some form.

Will we lose our 2nd Amendment rights?

YES. As we know it. It's just a question of how much and how soon. Even if Americans are still "allowed" to own guns in 2050, they will look at Youtube videos from 2015 and wish they could play with those cool weapons with as much access as they did back then.

There are so many things stacked against the firearms community now. We are in greater danger than we were during the Obama presidency. The tech giants are just making it more difficult to promote gun stuff on the Internet through demonetization and shadowbanning. They are removing political voices on our side through outright banning. Not just the likes of Alex Jones, but look at the flak hitting commentators who are very reasonable and well articulated like Tucker Carlson. So it's very hard to get the pro-2nd Amendment message out there. It won't be long before your local gun store goes out of business because Visa and Mastercard suddenly get a conscience and decide they no longer want firearms and related accessories purchased on their platforms.

The recurrence of these horrific mass shootings that make media cycles makes the 2A a tough sell. When people get slaughtered like that, it's a reminder of the seriousness of what guns can do. It doesn't matter that by statistics private firearms overwhelmingly prevent more crime and save lives. It's a complicated issue, but the authority figures of our society will try to "fix" this by chipping away at gun rights. Bans won't happen overnight, but ownership will become incrementally harder with more hoops to jump through. Fewer people owning firearms means less momentum for the firearms community. Since 2016 we've been let down by REPUBLICAN politicians passing nonsensical gun laws. Trump banned bumpstocks by executive order, setting a devastating precedent. Gun friendly states like Florida and Vermont passed additional restrictions. Until there's a way to preemptively get rid of the crazy people who abuse our rights, which ain't gonna happen, this cycle will continue into the forseeable future.

Republicans are going to screw up at some point (they already have by dropping the ball in the 2018 midterms), and we will lose our pro-gun Supreme Court majority. Don't be surprised if John Roberts has a change of heart and turns anti-gun. The rising tide of socialism cannot be stopped. Millennials are largely economically broken thanks to big business cronyism and believe this means capitalism isn't working for them. Expect to see more politicians like AOC and Ilhan Omar. Oh, and now that #metoo has been fully weaponized men can no longer run for congress. All it takes is for your opposition to pay off a mentally ill woman to publicly unleash a false allegation just before the election and your campaign is over. We will lose a lot of good people on our side because of this.

When I first joined this board I was a very young man who was just getting interested in guns. I probably was a Fudd. No, they're not going to confiscate property and jail people for stuff they legally bought in a store - that's silly. Or so I thought. I have to thank everyone on this board for educating me about how easily our rights can be lost and all Americans end up in a UK, Australia, or California/NY situation. But that is the heart of the matter. Rights are easily lost by the generations after the people who originally fought for them, simply because they don't value the rights they've been entitled with. It's very hard to get them restored.

And they paid the price. As we will.

There is a difference between license and liberty. The two can not co-exist. Up until recent decades, this is what set the United States apart, the principles we are founded on assumes a moral people.

That is the question this thread is asking.
