Over the course of a career? Probably a pretty significant amount have anger issues at some point. I started having some anger control issues after dealing with a child shot in the neck, took advantage of our program for such things, and moved on. Being angry and shooting someone willy-nilly aren't the same thing.

First, I think that the article conflates "anger issues" with "propensity to violence". Second, I would probably be worried about the psychological health of a police officer - especially one in a major metropolitan area - who did not suffer from anger issues at least occasionally. How can you deal with that much crap, and not have it impact you?

Yeah I don't see how anyone that has to deal with all the stupid stuff that society has to offer will not be angry at some point.

This article makes me laugh. It provides even more proof that the anti-gunners are losing, THEY KNOW IT, and they are grasping at straws trying to make arguments.

A bunch of pseudo intellectuals can come up with what ever idea they want and get it published on a website. It doesn't change the fact that the nations opinion on guns (even in traditional anti-gun demographics) has shifted to our side and is continuing further. I am beginning to lose count of the number of my left-leaning formally anti-gun family, friends, and acquaintance that are now asking me about getting their concealed carry license or buying a firearm for home protection. We are now at over 12.8 MILLION people with concealed carry licenses and growing every day.

How many states are now shall issue? How many states are now constitutional carry? How many states have passed campus carry in the last few years? How many states have passed/expanded open carry? We have shifted their arguments from "You have no right to own a assault weapon and handguns will be SEVERELY RESTRICTED" to "can you please not carry your AK-47 inside Chipotle".

The sad thing is that too many of the people who can read and reads that article will believe what it says is true. I hate liars, thieves & murderers. Likely in that order. While I can protect myself from a murderer and a thief, I am not able to do so with a liar.

That didn't make me angry at all. In fact, it made me laugh. It also made me feel a little bit sorry for people that think like this.

You are obviously a sociopath if that doesn't make you mad, accordingly you lose your second amendment right.

Catch, uh, oh phooey! I forget. I guess I lose too. To? Two?

OH! I just remembered, CATCH 22 MILLION +.

If true there would be evidence to back up these claims. If 22+ million Americans have "anger and impulse" issue and also carry outside the home, then there should be shootings involving these people almost everywhere and virtually every day. Yet we almost NEVER see this sort of hypothetical person involved in a shooting of any kind.

What is the profile of the typical shooter? Doesn't fit the profile in the article in any way.

This is the G rated version of what I was thinking! :)

I ask, can these people realy be that stupid? Even just a few of them? How do they ever manage to get through a whole day unassisted? Do they wipe the drool off of their own faces?

No replies needed. I was just asking rhetorically.

You stopped short of exploring the reason. These people are also fine examples of the fact that we have many of these problems because such individuals who on one hand are almost exclusively Darwinists but for some strange reason refuse to allow Darwin to work, stopping such morons from self-liquidating, thus imposing the problem of their existence on us.

The article is nonsense, but Swanson's work has some value (of course, I don't go along with his proposed solution). Mental illness alone as a predictor of violence (against others, suicide excepted) sucks. There just isn't a scientifically demonstrable link, Swanson says. Many mental illnesses vary over a lifetime-a person can change.

We humans, always seeking a cure for our humanity, like to quickly identify an issue, any issue, that we can say is at the core of a problem, and then propose dumb solutions. The particular solution often seems to be that which will affect the of the proponent the least, especially when it comes to guns.

I did a study on this a few years back and discovered that gun grabbers generally lie by a significant margin more than their RKBA supporting peers. Their average IQ was also significantly lower. They also have a very high tendency to not mind their own business.

I would venture to say that these are also people who would be much more likely to self-liquidate if the government were not in the extraconstitutional business of protecting the stupid from themselves.

So it's the governments fault! I sorta expected that.:):

Oh that we could have the Federal Government stick to it's Constitutional mandates and those alone.

Absolutely. After all, the Constitution is remarkably clear that the federal government has only the authority granted to it by the Constitution, and for the obtuse, the Tenth Amendment more clearly addressed the issue. The only justification for usurpation beyond this comes from the realm of willful ignorance.

Old argument. Has been used in California to make more and more people prohibited persons.

The anti-civil rights lobby wants to swell the listing of prohibited persons.

So, no guns for a 53 year old father of three who got in a fight in a bar near Fort Bragg at a 21 year old E-4?

No guns for someone who blew over .08 when they were 19?

The Left's obsession with criminality exhausts me. "Show me the man and I will show you the crime."

Exactly. Truth is, they don't want to even consider talking about restoring a constitutional right unless it's about allowing a dead guy to keep voting for their favorite candidate. The Lautenburg amendment needs to be taken off the books, or at the very least have a way to reverse it. Someone "claims" you touched them in a violent way and they are immediately a prohibited person for life. Many lie to hurt the person, cause them hardship, or maybe even try to hide the fact that they were the violent aggressor but when the neighbor calls the police, they are afraid to be at fault so they lie. Truth is a person who chooses to buy a gun for their protection are people who refuse to be a victim and likely do have some aggressive qualities, which is not a bad thing. If they are like some of these writers who write this tripe, they are cowards who know they don't have the courage to face an attacker, so they are misguided into thinking they will not have to if they pass a law disarming everyone. Of course they are too blind to realize that criminals don't follow the law, that's why they are called criminals.
