Thanks for writing an article about one of my favorite subjects, very cool!

Here's a few pics of my small SCW collection. The Tula 91/30 has an original matching floorplate and an Izhevsk stock with what appears to be some burns towards the muzzle end. The model 1916 mauser retains the early 1st pattern lange sight. Still on the hunt for a Spanish mauser long rifle and a couple others. I also had a New England Westinghouse SCW M91 but I passed it on to a local collector buddy.

Nice rifles.. God I love that burn... and real nice sling rings... What is the cartouche on the stock of the Middle rifle???

I have always wondered who is responsible for the Made in USSR stamp. I have a hard time thinking it was the American importer considering some are misspelled.

Yeah I like the burn marks, makes ya wonder....I believe the cartouche on the 91/30 is the standard Soviet CCCP stamp they put on Izhevsk rifle stocks. Not sure on the USSR stamp, I'm gonna do a little research on that.

Will post pictures soon of another 91/30 I just picked up, 1937 Izhevsk all original matching except the bolt, triple USSR stamped, original stock that doesn't appear to be sanded. Nice bore too, will be taking it to the range.

Would like to see that triple stamp.. that is real boss.. From what I have found "Made in USSR" stamp is accepted as a sign that it was imported from the Spain (Thus SCW). (no one really knows who put it there)..

But another fun question are the Carcanos stamped "Made in Italy", big question where those came from.. I have seen some Carcanos stamped "made in Italy" made in the 1940s. So that rules out SCW exclusive.

Ever wonder about the Italian arms from the SCW not really being documented???

I can check it later, but I'm fairly certain Brogan and Zarca mention in "Deadly Business" that Sam Cummings negotiated for two Carcano purchases simultaneously; those from Spain and some from Italy. If true, that would establish the mark as applied by Interarms.

Applied by Interarms or for Interarms??

I would guess by, though it's more likely that it was done in the country of shipment. That's just my guess, though.

That would explain the misspellings. Say what you want about Interarms.. Those Rascals knew how to spell..

Also a damn shame they imported those Carcanos from 2 sources at the same time.. Because what could have ID ed Carcanos as coming from the SCW is now lost in the mist.
