Fun, is a purpose of course, but really trying to figure out where a PCC fits in with my other guns.

Perhaps that's the point, it doesn't.

I think the most common purpose I hear outside of fun and range games is HD.

Thoughts? Where did you land on PCCs?

Maybe. I think you can hunt deer with .40 in Indiana, so you could potentially use it very much like the revolver/lever carbine originally came to be.
I can't see any practical use beyond just a range toy. If you're using an AR platform for PCC, you have no advantage over just carrying a rifle. If you're using something like the Ruger PC (not the charger version) you don't have any size advantage over a traditional AR platform.
I'm assuming of course you have both an AR platform and a PC. If that isn't the case and all you had was a pcc and your sidearm, you could make it work for SD.

I like to run mine in IDPA and steel challenge matches. I normally like to run pistol in USPSA.

They're range and competition toys. In a world where 5.56 exists, there is no point to a 9mm carbine.

I have 2 PCCs. A Ruger PC carbine and a Hi Point 45 carbine. I don't need them, but it's kinda cool to have a couple of long guns that take pistol ammo, which I have plenty of. Being carbines, they are handy enough in size to be decent home defense weapons, if needed. No, it's not an AR, but 33 rounds of 9mm +P out of a handy 16" barrel carbine with a decent red dot and weapon light is not exactly useless as bad guy medicine. Bonus points for taking the same mags as a few of my pistols.

The biggest advantage I see to any PCC is compatibility with the same ammo and in some cases the same magazines as your pistol.

    ^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

My 45 camp takes the same ammo and magazines as my 1911A1. These are my primary defensive weapons. I also have an 8 round 12 ga. shotgun.

I do not like the AR platform personally. I had enough of that in the Army. I am not against you having as many as you like, so carry on.

I live out in the sticks and my Jeep gun is a Glock 26 in the center console. If I'm really out and about, I throw the Ruger PCC in it's backpack behind the seat. Same mags run in both, though a 26 with a 33 rd mag does look kinda funny.....

For me it was the a combo of shooting plate racks for fun and the use of the same mags as my Ruger SR9 and SR9C. And at one time back in the day cheap 9mm ammo.

If you set your PCC up like your real self defense rifle, it's a really sweet system to practice running the gun in games. The stress of the timer pushes a lot of learning and a lot of fun.

Same can be said for using your PCC in training, in leu of using the more expensive .223 ammo.

Icing on the cake is that you will be obligated to learn and STRICKTLY follow the four rules of firearm's safety to participate.

Back in the day what sold me was Ruger P-series/PC9 mags in common. Still have most of that. No reason to change, as their legendary reliability is unimpaired.

Three fun-filled words: Calico, Uzi, MP5 (well, not technically a word)

I bought one to carry around the yard/farm/ in the woods if I need it for coyote coon or bad man encounter.
The main reason behind my purchase was a SHTF deer rifle if things got seriously that bad. 9mm would be easier to barter for than say anything else, plus I can reload thousands of rds for it.
