Long story short I hurt my back about ten years ago and since then it "goes out" usually twice a year. When it goes out, it really goes out, like I cant move. Got an MRI a few years ago when it was pretty bad, two bulging disks, L4 and L5.

Last thursday while sitting at my desk at work of all things, I get a shooting pain in my back. Its out again and I missed friday from work and have been practically paralyzed since then. IT SUCKS I'm so tired of this. I have gotten really good at proper lifting and stretching to avoid it in the first place but it will still happen. I have pain meds but they really dont do anything, only time does.

    This sucks.

Find yourself a good chiropractor. I think the one at 82nd and Allisonville is supposed to be pretty good. I would recommend mine but he is down here in Evansville. A good chiropractor can unpinch that nerve that is killing you like no pain meds or muscle relaxers can

I have 3 discs that are shrinking down and out and all over the place... back pain is the worst!! So far my Chiropractic Doc has save me, I know some call them witch docs, but mine is real good! Was down for 3 days once and he told me to go see a real doc... then the real doc said go back to him for 1 more week... lucky I did... I can take a ton of pain meds, but still, as you say, move the wrong way or the back just gives you pain to let you know its there...
I feel for ya!!! I have been real lucky the last 4 years....
    Work related!!! :)
see a chiro doc.... but make sure he is one that take x-rays,urine tests(yes, to make sure its not a kidney problem), etc... worked for me, but its another arguement if they work or not ....

Flexural the home plate shaped ones from a RX prescription. Call the doc and have them write you a script. it will get you back on your feet quicker but will not solve the underlying problem of a degenerative disk,. When it gets bad enough and includes leg and knee pain shooting down and up then you need to go under the knife.

I saw my dad suffer for years with his, He finally had to get it taken care of. You wil know when it is time to make that choice. His leg pain is now gone along with most of the back pain. No bad spells since the surgery either.

If you need a specialist PM me and I can ask dad to give you a call about what they had to do to him and his doctor. It is the only procedure he does.

I feel your pain. Well, I don't have it quite as bad as you do, but I know how debilitating it can be. I have come to the conclusion that, regardless what triggers it each time, sitting at my desk for 8hrs a day makes it worse and prolongs it. I've been researching getting a raised desk and a good floor mat so that I can work while standing. I think that splitting my time between standing and maybe sitting at a stool will help. We'll see.

I know Chiropractors help some people.
    They just never helped me.
Something as insignificant as picking up a briefcase could put me out of commission for weeks at a time.
I had an MRI and was diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease. That was sixteen years ago. My Dr. said that I could have surgery which may, or may not, help or I could just live with it until the damaged disks were absorbed and the bones naturally fused themselves together.
I elected to not have the surgery and now I have had zero back problems for nearly five years.
    (Knock on wood)
    Just my experience. :dunno:

I have been dealing with 6 herniated disks for years now & thanks to degenerative disk disease I'll probably end up acquiring a few more before my time on this planet is up.

It's not a lot of fun, especially when they herniate into the spinal cord & cause paralysis, spasms &/or sciatica (or all three like in my case), anyway a few years ago it got real bad & I spent 9 months in a wheel chair & another year & a half hobbling around with a cane, what I found helped the most was a jacuzzi & a tread mill, granted the tread mill hurts like crazy at first but eventually it really does help a lot especially if you are having mobility problems, the jacuzzi also really helps, I soak in mine all of the time & it is worth every penny.

Those two things worked out so well that I rarely have to use my cane anymore & I was able to get completely off narcotic pain relievers & now I can usually get by with prescription non-narcotics (for when I am active doing stuff) & regular over the counter stuff (for when I am just hanging around the house).

I wish you the best of luck man, I wish I could say that surgery or steroid & spinal block injections helped me but they didn't ... neither did seeing a chiropractor, but getting on the tread mill every day & getting in the jacuzzi every night did eventually help me heal up, granted not completely but good enough that I was able to put my wheel chair in storage & my cane in the rack.

This! I sustained a back injury on the job a few years ago. The Chiropractor was the only one who could put me back together, so to speak. Hurt like hell the first few months though. :twocents:

L1-L5 and s1 discs are shot to hell, degenerative disc disease, avascular necrosis, and osteoarthritis in the spine here.:yesway: whats really fun for me is have the back spasms that pull the lumbar in my lower back straight as a board.

About 8 years ago I herniated three lumbar disks containing an assaultive patient. I have three 7-8mm herniations. I had chronic flare ups and like you would become completely incapacitated by them for years. Then about six years ago my chiropractor, who specializes in sports injuries, gave me these exercises to perform with an inflatable ball. Its like a pilates ball or whatever. Anyway, after about a week my back started getting remarkably stronger and more stable. After a month my back felt darn near good as new. I still have occasional flare ups, but rarely are they anywhere near as bad as they used to be. I no longer take any medication for pain or inflammation except when I have a really bad flare up. Also, almost every flare up I have is usually my fault, trying to lift too much with poor body mechanics. Here is a link to the type of exercises I'm talking about. Your Orthopaedic Connection: Low Back Pain Exercise Guide
You should of course talk to your chiropractor first, but I would definitely give it a shot. Good luck.

Chiropractors and exercise? Havent been to a chiro for a few years but I'm practically a pro at back exercises.

I dont think pot is going to do much for this kind of pain

Be careful with going to a chiropractor. I have had back issues since my early 20's. Over the years it has gotten worse. I went to a chiropractor first. It made it worse. Then, later I found out I have degenerative back disease. I have two buldging disks and arthritis. Dr.'s would not do anything. They said it was not bad enough to cause problems. Well, now when I sleep. I wake up and my right leg is on fire. One of the pinched nerves runs down my right quad. I live with back pain every day. Some days I can barely whipe my own ***. I also went to physical therapy. Did all the palatis ball exercises and other crap. The only thing that helped was deep tissue masages. So, I know how you feel. Best of luck. Hope you can get it taken care of. I myself am going to go see another specialist.

Be careful with going to a chiropractor.

Never really had much luck with a chiropractor, never been all that helpful.

So I REALLY wanted to go to Bradis this weekend but my back kept me at home :xmad: So my wife, perhaps taking advantage of this, told me this on friday.

her "I could go there alone" me "and what would you get" her "whatever I want" me "uh, ok...what if I dont like it?" her "sucks for you" So she went to Bradis without me and the whole time I was laying here basically helpless and going crazy wondering what she would bring home.

When she finally got home she handed me a brown paper bag with a pistol case inside. Turns out shes pretty awesome (which I already knew) she got me/us a brand new Ruger SR9.

So the weekend could have been worse I guess.
