I have pretty good luck with heat (heating pad). Many recommend alternating icing and heat but that never works for me. Heat relaxes clenched muscles and promotes blood flow, and that enhances healing

Heat works for me also. Got multiple compression fractures in the thoracic region, a 3 level fusion, and degenerative disc disease. Lost 3" in height over the last 15 years, 2" in the last 5.

    Could be anywhere
Life is pain, it will stop hurting when you die...maybe.

I recently tried Biofreeze which seems to provide some temporary relief. I've been dealing with back pain since the '70s. As noted earlier; cider, vodka, bourbon...advice from a flight surgeon: "I could give you Advil with Codeine and you'll go off flight status or you could just go home and drink a 6 pack."

    Ibuprofen does NOTHING for me
Naproxen does help sometimes. Help..............does not make it go away completely.
I think I had 3 days last yr when my back didn't hurt.
It's been pretty bad the last 3 months............nonstop.
Dunno if I tore something and activity won't let it heal.
Had Xrays, reg doc.....says some arthritis.
Next is MRI and spine doc.
I do everything I used to, just hurts all the time and makes me super tired.
Proly affect my sunny disposition at some point.

I've had way worse pain, for about 3 yrs.

So this back stuff, while being pretty crappy..........is tolerable.
I can take the pain...............just wears on me.
If I power through and do a major yard project all day, I'll be in agony for a couple of days.
Then it'll settle down to just horrible like usual.

How is that different then ibuprofen?

The literature says naproxen and ibuprofen are very similar, both NSAIDs that work more or less the same way. A little more risk of GI and blood pressure side effects from naproxen. Naproxen is supposed to last longer than ibuprofen.

What I say is that ibuprofen doesn't seem to do anything to relieve pain in my knee (presumably from the arthritis I have there), but naproxen pretty much tamps it down.

I say about 75-80% of my pain has gone away, but I'm really feeling pain on my butt...definitely appearing to be sciatica nerve pain. Guess I need to go back to ibuprofen...

Yep that's the boat I'm in too. Started out all in my lower back but now more so in my right butt cheek and in my right hip. I finally have an MRI scheduled for Friday, then I will get to see the specialist (neuro surgeon, I think).

I had a S1-L5 fusion Dec-20 after 10 years of pain. I can tell you what can help.
    1. Chiropractor. Mine will adjust you for around $30 if no insurance or find a groupon. I went 3 tines a week for years but had insurance.

    2. For my surgery I got a cooling pad machine. Sends ice cold water through a 10x10 pad. Helped more than morphine after surgery and relief numbness in my leg.

    3. Decompression back brace

    4. Anaprox

    5. If surgery go to neurosurgeon not orthopedic.

I really do not want to talk about surgery right now...too young for that. I have been thinking of getting some tennis balls and put them under my butt as I'm laying down to act like deep tissue pressure points...

You guys make me feel not as old. Did have some back and neck issues for a while but posture adjustment, better shoes, lowered the keyboard, raised the monitors, better chair, and the stiffest g**d*** mattress I could find did wonders. But I don't have any lingering back injuries, other joints but not my back. Now I just need to work on the weight...
