I went backpacking for five days last year. As nice as it was, I don't see myself doing it again and would rather clear out the space in my closet.
First is a Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1 with ground cloth. It is extremely light and packs down small. I stayed in it for five nights in Colorado, wiped it down and dried it out when I got home, then put it away. $200.
Next is a Big Agnes Q Core SLX regular size mattress with the Pump House bag. Slept on it for those same five nights without issue. $110.
Last is an Osprey Volt 60. It's a one size fits most pack ( it's quit adjustable ) and, while I don't really have a basis for comparison when it comes to backpacking packs, I thought it was really comfortable. It also comes with an Osprey rain cover that I used once for about fifteen minutes. I just don't see myself needing it for anything. $110.
