Were the 760s the nylon stock or forearm? Or was that a different Rem I’m thinking of?

    760's were wood.
There were newer model 7600's with synthetic stocks/forends.

Dunno if any aftermarket synth for the older style 760's. Last of the 760's could take 7600 furniture. Not early ones like mine (buttstock yes, forend no).
I was looking for a 7600 style 760. But none found below $700.
This one is an ADL model, and it shoots good, and was cheaper. So said "good enough".

They did make synthetic stocked 7600's in .35 rem, Grice Wholesale model. They run 900 and up used on GB.

FWIW while I got the .35 rem stamped mag to work fine now.....
a newer .243 mag (marked only with .243 win) works fine w .35 rem ammo.

I have not tried one of the yet newer mags w multi cartridges stamped on side.
$20 for a usable spare mag is pretty sweet.

Follower is different but it works fine. Good enough.

If you can find one at a reasonable price I would. I am sure nobody on your block has one. That is usually my excuse when I buy something that isn’t a real popular caliber or not common.

Buddy had a 700 classic in .35 Whelen. I shot two groundhogs with it (woodland setting, hilly for backstops).
250 grainers as fast as he could push them (right near .338 winmag V according to his chrono).
Was a big shove, not unpleasant.

I do agree, not having stuff the rest of the kids have is kinda cool.
