So I have a guy at work selling a Begara B14 Ridge, in 243, with scope mounts for 650 bucks. I know nothing about these rifles. Good deal or pass?

Hard to determine, as most places are out of stock and therefore aren't showing prices. Bergara is a Spanish company known for high quality barrels. I just ordered a B14 Timber in .308 myself, based on some reviews I've seen on the quality of Bergara rifles, specifically the barrels being quite accurate. A buddy just picked up a Ridge in .308 with his son and says it feels like a real quality rifle. I don't believe they've done any shooting with it yet. I wanted the HMR version, but couldn't find it in .308 anywhere, so settled for the Timber, which is supposed to have a nice walnut stock. Anyway, the one site that I saw with a price on a B14 Ridge in 243 listed it at $750, which seems right, so the guy selling it for $650 with rings sounds like a reasonable deal to me, as long as there isn't anything wrong with the rifle.

I ordered a Ridge in 30-06 back in the fall. I believe it was $850 before any fees and without scope rings. It's the most accurate 30-06 I've owned. I have read that the Bergara B14 is what the Remington 700 should have been.

It should be a decent deal, it's about 100.00 below usual selling price, I just picked up an HMR Wildnerness but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

OP: Do you already have .243 Win ammo stocked up?

If you do, then I say go for it. If you do not already have several hundred rounds, or the means to produce them, then I would pass. But that's me.

I was able to get my Bergara to the range (at least the indoor range) to check my boresite, it was spot on and I didn't need to make any adjustments, it was even a little low like I needed it to be to compensate for the close distance.
