My daughter is performing for her school color guard today. I am curious if Ben Davis has any type of metal detectors or security checks for events.

I have no idea if they have metal detectors or not, but if the event is being held on school grounds then carrying there is illegal.

I think that's what Chezuki was getting at with his question.

I understand that completely. I just prefer that everyone else is disarmed equally when I can't carry. I think gun free zones are ridiculous unless you actually enforce with metal detectors or security checks.

Jroe, I hate to break it to ya, but metal detectors can be defeated.:D

I grew up on the westside and Ben Davis was my high school. I was there as recently as 2015. I observed no metal detectors.

I know it can be defeated, but it at least serves as a stronger deterent than simply saying lawfully abiding citizens should leave their firearms behind and depending on the honor system to disarm the not so lawfully abiding citizens.

IDK about Ben Davis but Pike Twsp has been using a portable model for years. They would set it up at a different entrance every day. They didn't catch a lot of stuff with the detector but caught some by watching kids who would see it, do a quick about-face, and head back to their cars. If Ben Davis doesn't have one/some, they should.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I know of 2 common firearms that have successfully made it through metal detectors. One of them made it past a wand. I won't say what they are, but a close friend is in charge of security in a large facility and has tested his machines and employees numerous times.

Must depend on the detector. The ones I go through at work will beep if you have a penny in your pocket. And if the guns are loaded? That's a lot of metal.

Having supervised some recent "graduates" of Ben Davis, I would be surprised if they didn't have metal detectors.

That's really a sweet thing to say.

They do have metal detectors but decide when and when not to use them. You most likely won't see them for a band event. I'd also highly recommend you don't take your chances and carry there, OP.
