Agree with Vette, no best, only personal preferences.

Personally, if the changes are passed I will most likely still hunt with my slug gun and muzzleloader. Where I tend to hunt majority of shots are easily under 100 yards.

I will try the .30-30 Winchester if the rule change goes through.
I've not had any complaints with the .44mag or .45Colt.
I just want to try the .30-30.

Seen it discussed many times over many years- never seen much of a consensus. A well placed shot is the important factor. But I like my .243!!!

There are dozens of "best" deer rounds under the current regulations, and if the DNR allows conventional rifle cartridges next season, the list of "best" deer rounds will be hard to count.

    Make mine a 270 Winchester.

.50 BMG, it's the only way to be sure. Well, short of nuking from orbit and that gets venison too well done for my taste.;)

    7mm-08.

There are many worse cartridges for deer. None are better. (All opinions are stated as fact.)

    Others I would use... .257 Roberts+P, .25-06, .250 Savage, .25 WSSM, .260 Rem, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5-.284 Norma, 6.5x55, 6.5 WSSM, 7x57, .284 Win, .308, .30-06, .338 Federal, .338-06, .358 WSSM, .358 Win, .35 Rem, .35 Whelen.

A few I already have. The bold ones are ones that I am considering to actually buy/build in the future.

This year I shot 2 deer, one at 10 yards and one at 30 yards, passed others within 50 yards. Really trying to decide what I need to flatten the trajectory and make these shots easier. All joking aside, I will use a 30 06 or 45-70 next year if allowed. Mainly because I already own therm

if we could use .223, id be happy to not have to buy another rifle....but...i would make the sacrifice if needed to get another rifle ;)

Most of my hunting spots I will probably still use my 44 carbine. For longer range I like 243. But I agree it's what works best for you. 243 is nice because it can be a nice varmint gun too, but again so can anything.

243winchester with an 80g barnes ttsx at 3400fps seems to do the job just fine for Arkansas deer. Hopefully I get to use it here next year :-)

My vote for Indiana deer 2014 is 35 Remington and ....drum roll please .:.:.:.:.:. For 2015 will be the 35 Remington

That will make at least two of us then. My 35 Remington Rimmed 1.8 does everything I need it to where I hunt. I'll say it will be tempting to pick up another T/C barrel, but not necessary.
