Picking up a Remington 700 Sps Heavy barrel and want a scope. will be using for coyote hunting ( i know if seems like an over kill) but I will also use for deer hunting when I go to my cabin in northern Wisconsin. would like to stay under 300 on scope. Let me know what you think!

    You have plenty of options.

Night or moonlit hunting you will want a very large objective lens to gather light.

I think many over power the magnification. my main coyote rig has a 3x9x40 but normally does not get cranked up passed 6.

you might look at the nikon buckmasters 6-18x40. you can get them on sale for 300. good clarity, get the mil dot version so you can use hold overs. tracking sucks and you do get a little tunnel vision.

You should be able to find some great buys under $300. Just get one with the largest objective lens you can find. As other have posted, a variable power like a 3x-9x with a 40mm objective lens would be a perfect sized scope for what you intend to do.

    Good luck!!!

I love my redfield revolution in 4-12, i would think the 3-9 by 50mm would work great for your purposes. And they are not going to break your bank, check fleabay for deals.

nikon 4.5x14-40 I have 3. 1 is the coyote and works great for coyotes but not the best retical for grouping on paper.I like that it has short turrets were the 6-18 has tall and make the scope take up more room in the safe.

Great scope. I have one on my AR10T in .308. Get one with the BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator) reticle and you can shoot out to 500 yards without any scope adjustments. I have a couple and the scopes are well worth the money.

ive tried the bdc and didn't like it as well as my mils. i hate aiming with a circle. i like like much finer point of aim the mils give me. when i did use a bdc i used the top and bottom of the circles and it was just to much for my liking

I love my 4.5-16x40 coyote special. Although like said above, you do not need that much magnification for a coyote at 300-400 yards or closer. I was told a good rule of thumb for scope power is 1x magnification per 100 yrds. That would bring a target at 1000 yrds to 100 yrds on 10x magnification.
