Hey, my boat lift lately is harder to lower than it is to crank up. I have pumped a ton of grease into it to no avail.

    See pic below.

On the stem just to the right of the zerk are two plates. When the lift is almost all the way down it operates normally, spins easily. The second plate the one with out the gears spins. When it is hard to lower both of them move together. I think something is not releasing allowing the inner one to spin freely.

    Ideas?

I will try it but the plate is looks like a fiberboard material. Grease came out the bottom of the two plates when I filled it. It acts normally when almost all the way down. It acts like a stuck brake.

did you hit the lift or overload it? Sounds like it might have some stress damage that might be out of alignment making it hard to move. I'd check it for damage if the cleaning and lube job does not fix it.

I have first hand knowledge of what an impact does to a boat lift. It was fun to watch from the dock.

Might be time for an overhaul.

Disassemble and soak the parts in kersoene.

The shafts might be seized together.
Pull apart and use some steel wool
to remove any rust or corrosion. :twocents:

No hits to it we always just barely creep in. Sounds like I am going to have to tear it down. That will have to be job for the fall. My luck with boats will have me with out lift for the rest of the summer.
