    Pre-existing contractual obligation.

    ^^This^^

I (and a dozen others) agreed to defer bonuses and commission for a previous employer in order to keep the doors open and make sure others got paid their base salary. A few months later they filed and I was a secured creditor, first in line to get paid by the bankruptcy trustee.

Besides, they didn't fail. They did exactly what they set out to do. They tapped into government money that was available to be spent only on things that couldn't be sold.

I started a training development company in 2009, closed it down in 2011. Part of what we wanted to do was to tap in to all the money that had been allocated in the stimulus for education services and for green policies, as well as actually just offering good training dev. services in general.

What we found out was that all that money was smoke and mirrors. It ended up going to the States, earmarked for certain things, but ended up in the hands of Democrat political constituents. There should have been a flood of money, but we couldn't find a dime, or more accurately, we could tell where it went, and where it stopped flowing.

Solyndra just played by the rulebook they were given. They didn't fail, they went exactly the only way they could have possible gone from the moment the whole scheme was cooked up.

    Closed loop, dross, closed loop.:D

Would have done better throwing money out of helicopters. That way at least some of it would have been used in a productive manner.

Of course, we could do something like abolishing the capital gains tax but that might help everyone.

The pool where Solyndra got their money is the same pool that was supposed to fund Carbon Motors in Connersville. They failed and the pool of money left has been scrutinized to the point of not funding an Indiana project.
