Decided to try a Boyds laminate buttstock on my .22rf Contender rifle.
Opened the box about an hr ago.
Finish is fine, weight is pretty heavy. Target rig, that's no big deal.
Ears are rather wide at receiver, and there is a little slop in the pocket (easy enough to shim or epoxy to make for better pocket.

So.........I'm going back to a reg TC/Choate synthetic, and freakin' kydex cheekpiece.

Brand new and not even gonna bolt it up.
Throw it on an auction site.

Stock is just too thick for my liking.

Are you sure that you can't return it as an open box item that didn't meet your requirements?
Could save yourself the roughly $60-$80 it probably cost you.

I supposed I could thin it.
No way it's going on my .35 Rem. That thing is lean n mean.
Do have a target .22rf with custom bbl (so no factory forends fit). Could get a laminate forend and transfer the hole, plug the others.
If I do that the rig will be a tank.
    Already modified a synth forend.
Could slim the heck out of the Boyds and just paint it to match my synth forend (painted).

My old little belt sander died, wonder how much effort to work down the laminate.

Grey (think they call it "pepper")
One good thing, it's always better to have too much stock material than too little ;)

If I whittle it down, will proly just paint it to match my synth forend.

Well crap. I lucked into a Super 14 .223 bbl today.
So...........will put one frame handgun and the other rifle.
    Don't need two buttstocks.
    Boyds going bye bye.

Am thinking my PA 30mm reddot on this Super 14, with a set of Pachys...........could be a fun rig.
    Worst case go 2X Leupold.

And yeah, the law changed some time back, doesn't matter what the frame was sold as.
Contenders were never "sold only as rifles".
