The emphasis was on "liberals"... atheists is just assumed, and irrelevant to Conservatives, Libertarians, or INGO-tarians.

I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone (if indeed it does surprise anyone); Houston may be one of the most liberal cities in Texas, but it's not THAT liberal - yet.

Well, the title doesn't really speak to what exactly is going on there. It isn't like he adopted the guy as a child, raised him, and then they decided to get married.

Well, the title doesn't really speak to what exactly is going on there. It isn't like he adopted the guy as a child, raised him, and then they decided to get married.

Yep. If it's the same case as I heard about a couple of months ago the one guy "adopted" the other while they were both adults and had been in a relationship for quite a while. The adoption was simply for convenience/legal reasons such as property rights, hospital visitation, medical decisions if one was incapacitated, etc.
