It finally happened, I got black gun fever... Do I start grabbing parts and building, buying parts as the pocketbook allows? How much will a decent build run me? Do I save my pennys and buy something off the shelf? I see a lot on here for $1,000+ and that is way out of my range. Any help or info will be much appreciated.

Build can be cheaper and is very rewarding, but harder to resell. However I've seen some ARs for 500 with sights at Gun shows, for example the M&P15 sport. Tough call, if you have mechanical skills I would do at least one build. If you aren't good with your hands then buy an off the shelf factory assembled one.

To me at least, building is half the fun. For my first AR, I slowly bought the parts as budget allowed. Building let's you get the "upgrade" ( triggers, stocks, ect) first, without going through the basic parts. YouTube has lots of very good videos walking you through all the steps. I recommend watching some of iv8888's videos.

PSA is running some super good deals with basically everything you need but a lower. I would get on their site and poke around.

the thing about building one is you put exactly what you want on it from the get go.if you buy one and then customize you have extra parts.there is a company selling actions with the the internals done and barrel mounted, you add everything else
