I have a quantity of lead bars. Each weighs 1 1/2 lbs. They are marked Gardiner Solder on the top and the number "333" is stamped on the bottom. My guess is that they are 50/50 tin/lead since they came from an automotive body shop. I just want to be sure before I start mixing up some #2 alloy. Does anybody know or know where I can find out? Thanks

Yeah, I found this too, but nothing specific to the bars I have. I put a call in to Gardiner Customer Service to see if they could help. Tx

Well, as it turns out Gardiner Metals went out of business sometime in the past, so no luck talking to customer service. Guess I'll do a hardness test and probably use it to cast plinkers.

It sounds like the electronic solder we used to use. 60% tin, 40% lead. It makes a nice addition to the lead mix for easier casting.
Tin makes the melting point lower and fills out the molds better.
