This is why the I use the center body mass, double tap method for self defense

Just in case the guy is wearing a gimmicky "bullet proof" hat? I can think of many reasons for center mass hits, but the off chance of encountering this hat isn't one of them.

Also, I imagine even without penetration the blunt force trauma of a bullet to the head could have some dire consequences.

Meh, I think most INGOers would be safe from that. ;)

Absolutely! Like getting tagged with a baseball bat to the forehead. Think Exedrin might be a partner? OUCH!

Even though a bullet may not penetrate that hat, a bullet to the melon can certainly still give a concussion.

And blows to the head aren't ever lethal, right? Right? Ahem.

Also - if you train to double tap.... You're setting yourself up to have a bad time if/when a "double tap" doesn't work.

I AM waiting for the news headline....

"Man killed when showing friends his new bullet proof hat would stop a bullet from his own gun."

"While drinking, a man told his friends that his hat was bullet proof.
He proceeded to put his glock .09 mm gun to his own head and pulled the trigger.
Cleatus Jones was pronounced dead upon arrival at the horsepistol."

    Followup story:

"Family of man killed when bullet proof hat fails to save life sues hat company."

Agreed. That's why many like myself practice the Mozambique drills. If the first two to the center mass didn't put them down why put a third one there? Albert Einstein's idea of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Two to the center mass and one to the head greatly changes the equation.

    Still not reliable.

    Heck, handgun rounds aren't reliable.

I don't know of any trainers who advocate only 2 to center mass. It's always more than 2...and generally always "shoot 4, 5, 6, or 7" to center mass and THEN a well-aimed shot or two to the "T-line".

Seriously. If you're training only two shots at a time - quit it.

That's a whole lot of counting and evaluating under pressure. I think I'll just keep squeezing until the threat has stopped while trying to move to safety.

If I'm ever being escorted to certain doom by three bad guys who haven't bothered to frisk me, I will bust out the most epic "El Prez" the world has ever seen though, and I'll score my own hits.
