Never had a problem there. I think the "please ask before approaching" sign is for the area where they handle the paperwork and give you the gun you purchased. Can't say for sure, since I've never bought a gun there.

I've gotten lots and lots of good deals there. Ship to store works good if you're willing to wait a week or so. The customer service depends on the server. Some of them won't give you the time of day (I don't think those guy know too much), and others will shoot the s**t for hours (if it's not crowded), show you all kinds of guns. The prices marked are not always accurate. They usually fix it at the register. That is my pet peeve, not knowing what price is the right one. From the internet, to the sale add, to the price on the shelf, to the register, it is never the same. But, they say they match any price. So I'm assuming their own is included.

I stopped in this weekend. They changed things since the last time I was in. Last time I was there you could walk up to the glass cases and look at the guns in the cases to see what all they had and the prices. I never bothered any of the workers unless there was something I wanted to see. This time they had a rope the entire length of the gun cases and you had to stand in line at one end and wait for an employee to come get you and show you what you wanted to see. I didn't really care for this method as I could tell by standing 3' away if they even had the gun I wanted to see. Turns out they did but I thought it was priced high.

Seems if you can find something in the library used you might get a good buy on a gun, other than that I am not impressed.

Anyway, the rope thing is something new that they did not use to have.

They process your paper, grab your money, then out the door. Worst warranty service experienced in 35yrs of owning handguns. Their firearms specialist can't drink water from the boot with the instructions on the heel. Nitwits. Good luck if you buy there and they extend any courtesy.

I was up there a few weeks ago and they did not have the rope. They bring that out during high activity periods and this is one of them. Gun stores have been swamped due to tax returns. They do it so they can actually service people fairly. You don't like it? Don't shop there.

I am going to have to quite going because I often find something I like but should not buy.

While there I picked up a very nice 1970 Marlin 94 in 44 mag for $350.00. I have gotten other great deals on used firearms and since I don't have to have brand new, I cannot pass up visiting once in awhile.

Ok. I won't. Since every dealer in this area, where I live and work beats them on price I will be happy to spend my money locally. I didn't make a special trip and I won't. If I hadn't been in the area I wouldn't have even stopped. Thanks for the advice.

I loved going to cabelas to browse the guns, now it sucks, just went this weekend

Did you let them know? Talk to a manger? Fill out a feedback form? Email the store or corporate?

The reason I ask is because they have tried several different ways to "control the crowds" so to speak. If they get feedback that from customer that the ropes sux I bet you they will look for another method. :D

I was just there the other day, they didn't have the ropes up. looking at picking up and testing some food from there, survival type. Dont want to buy a lot and then find out i didnt like the taste of it. Granted, Im sure if im starving Ill eat, like I have done before. Anyway, as stated, talk to a manager, come up with a better suggestion, Im sure they would be willing to listen

I think the "Rope" idea sucks ! What ever happened to the number system ?

    manygunsmike

    Tell them!!! Tell them!!!
The number system just like the rope system just no "no barrier" have all been different things they have/are trying to see what works best for flow control for them.

I have been to cableas at least 5 times and i can never leave without buying something. For the must part i get reloading supplies and they are reasonable priced. I like cableas because they have items in stock unlike bass pro. As far as the looking at the guns part I haven't been in there yet to see that cluster.

We always go North to visit Cabela's during the summer to spend the Cabela's bucks we get with their credit card. I think of all the credit cards, it's about the best for perks. We have the black card, and it pays off well. You have to remember to pay your balance off monthly, otherwise it's not a good deal. Sometimes we have trouble finding something to spend it on we feel is a good deal. Just because you're redeeming points money, doesn't mean you go hog wild and buy stupidly. Remember, it's still your money. I do enjoy all the taxidermy exhibits. They are marvelous, and the expense it took for those mounts, has to be incredible. I also enjoy the Indiana trophies exhibit, with all the monster Indiana bucks. Pretty neat to see.

When I was there a week ago they had the ropes up but it was confusing to me. There was no way in. I walked back and fourth along the ropes and finally just ducked under and stepped up to the counter. They were fine with that.

I also noticed that now they have the computers that you fill out your app online yourself. At first I did not like that because they were out in the open with poeple walking around. I don't want to be typing in my address and social security number with people watching. But my son told me that the screens have that deal on there where you cannot see the screen unless your directly in front of it. He said when he first saw me at the computer it looked like I was staring at a black screen. That made me feel better about the situation.

I think that the computers are a pretty good thing but I don't think that they give you enough direction on where to go and stand at each point in the process while you wait.

I my opinion they loose revenue because of the "not enough direction" thing. What I mean is, I wanted to shop around a bit but I did not know if they had my papers yet or when they were ready for me. So I felt that I needed to stick close to the counter to see what was next. That keeps me from wondering around with time to kill and maybe picking up some inpulse buys.

Thye simply need 1 person that looks at the purchase process from begining to end and makes signage with clear direction of each step. Then they need employees to open their mouth and tell people what is going on and what to expect. Something like this - "Okay, we have your application and it will take a few minutes to come back. Please feel free to shop around and we will call your name as soon as we are ready to have you complete the transaction".

    Bingo.

I think the issue is crowd control. I see that Gander has re-arranged their display cases and have installed one of the Take-A-Number machine. I think it has to do with a lot of folks keeping the clerks busy showing firearms to people who aren't really interested in buying or who can't pass a background check. I'm sure they don't intend to make people mad but they get mad when they stand there for ever and ever get waited-on.

The telephone number thing at the register drives me nuts too. It's a marketing thing to determine where the shoppers are coming from and could impact the next store location, etc. Tell them anything except sometimes it can be a security issue expecially if you use a credit Card (the numbers must match billing address).
