    i wouldnt advise it as your buddy could and will go to jail if a cop is there.i also hear that dnr is at shooting ranges to check for permits of everyone there.sad but true a felon is not to have or carry a weapon.and yes i agree everyone has had a time with the law.

    I would guess that, no, he cannot shoot a firearm. All depends on the definition of "possess". If he is "in possession" of a firearm, he just committed another felony.

    Indiana Code 35-47-4

    BTW: Black Powder rifles are not considered "firearms" (gotta love legal definitions!). If he really has the bug, that might be an option. He could also work at getting his rights restored (see the above link).
