Do casinos still not allow carry? When I was looking it stated “river boat” but I will be going to the horseshoe in Michigan city for a holiday party soon. Any first hand experience?

They do not. At some point the law got changed & “riverboat” was removed. Now all casinos in IN are victim disarmament zones.
That being said, I do not recall if metal detectors are used or not. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to one.

Regardless its a "lawful" GFZ as I recall. Complete with fines and a criminal record. Call and make sure they have the ability to "check" your pistol at the door. At one time I believe it was codified that they had to provide a secured storage for your gun.

But even then I've heard some horror stories of them only having responsible staff there part of the time so if you happen to take too long you'd have to come back the next day to get your gun back because the person responsible's shift ended before you were ready to leave and nobody else was capable of doing it.

I would 100% never do that. lol I’d rather leave it at home than hand to some moron…. That doesn’t even make any sense to me at all.

As described to me they would take you behind the counter into a room, you would insert your holstered firearm into a safe deposit box of sorts and lock it, taking the key. So you arent handing it to anyone.

But at one Casino, not everyone had the keys to that office, so when that supervisor left, say at 10PM, then when you went to leave at 10:30 nobody could let you into that room to retrieve it. So they would follow the law in full, but only from 8am to 10pm.

At the horseshoe in southern Indiana, you can just go to the front desk of the hotel and ask for a safe deposit box. They used to have a place at the entrance to the casino to check in firearms, it was always staffed by at least two security guys, but it’s been several years since I’ve been to the casino there, so don’t know how it is now.

The casino at French Lick recently still had a lockup room right by the casino entrance, it was usually a state trooper that would secure firearms there.

I’ve used the gun check a few times, Beltarra, Horseshoe, and French Lick, and never has the security dude touched the weapon. They walk in to the secure room with you, and you put your gun in the lock box and take the key with you. Horseshoe had small lock boxes they bring out to the checkpoint and you place your gun in it there and lock it, then they put it in a safe.

This is my understanding of how it works. Have not done in a while, casinos don’t attract me much anymore…

I don’t gamble much, maybe $10 in a slot and I’m done, but we like to go in and get a drink and walk around and people watch.

Last time we went to French Lick I put $3 in a slot and hit enough for food and drinks the rest of the night

    Well it’s went through a few… changes.

First allowance was for gambling on river lake boats while underway.

Then Indiana allowed them to run gambling while docked.

This got some enterprising bastards to see a loophole. The law didn’t define well what a dockside boat was. Michigan city built a permanently docked Casino boat.

The craziness got worse when French lick didn’t want to be left out, so they built a Boat in a Moat in French Lick using the patoka lake license.

Indiana finally gave in when they saw the Boat in a Moat and just let them use normal buildings. The French lick boat was later grounded, but I believe the Michigan city is still legally considered a boat. Adjust carry accordingly.

French Lick has metal detectors. Was there yesterday. Leave it in the truck.

I like casinos and so does the wife. Nothing wrong with it.
The bestie is a 7 Stars poker player and she hits Anderson or Shelbyville often, I will sometimes meet her and have dinner at The Steakhouse in the casino. We both CC carry along with many other people that I see.
I don't think security really cares, they know who you are.
