CB advice

I need some advice on a quality CB for my pickup. I am new to this hobby so I please be gentle. A buddy at work gave me a Cobra 18 wx model. After installing it and buying an antenna it was later discovered it did not work. Another buddy gave me what he said was a new Radio Shack model TRC-446. It looked brand new. I hooked it up, I dont know if this matters but I have a Radio Shack magnetic antenna. But this CB gets very poor reception. Any ideas what a quality CB and antenna I need to get? I really dont want to spend a bunch of money.

If you want a decent set up, get yourself a Cobra 29 with a wilson magnet mount antenna (hard mount is better) and have a reputable CB shop set the SWR and peak and tune it.

RS stuff is pretty much junk.
