Visiting for the first time to the Gun Show tomorrow. I was wondering what the rules were concerning CCW while going to the show? I was going to unload and carry my mag in one pocket and the empty gun in the holster. But, I didn't know if I needed to leave the magazine elsewhere, etc.

Can you please advise this first timer? Thanks!

    Welcome to INGO!

This is an old thread but still relevant:

    https://www.indianagunowners.com/forums/general-firearms-discussion/16743-indy-1500-faq.html

Prices have gone up a bit since then and definitely DO NOT bring a loaded magazine or a concealed firearm. ALL firearms must be checked and zip-tied on the way in and it would really **** off the cops at the door of you bring in anything loaded.

    Enjoy the show!

This is why I wanted to make sure before I arrived. Saw conflicting advice on other sites. Thanks for the feedback!

Where are all of you who slam all the other gun shows because "that violates your rights"?

Found out last show that they HIGHLY PREFER things unloaded before entering the building... Long story...

One of several reasons I don't bother to go to the 1500 anymore. $5 to park, $10-12 to enter just to highlight a couple of reasons. Like the bars/restaurants that lead you to believe that they can override State law with their cute little signs stating no firearms. The 1500 sets up their own little gun free zone, my venue, my rules.. It's my understanding that you can be asked to leave (and arrested for trespassing if you refuse) if you don't want to follow their rules but you are NOT breaking the law carrying there unless there is some special rule because it's the State fair grounds. Lord knows, I do understand that there are people that don't have proper (or possibly any) safety training and I'm uncomfortable around them with loaded guns. I see it more often than most but I see it as extremely hypocritical to set up a "gun show" and ban guns.. Just as in every other instance because they don't want to talk about training, or lack of, they are shifting the blame to the evil firearm. Sounds exactly like the liberal media to me. Maybe a person outside the door explaining to folks that if you have a loaded gun and you remove it from the holster you will be arrested for, at the very least, brandishing would be a better solution. As I said earlier, your venue your rules but you can choose not to participate which is what I do. I worked for PSS for several years at the 1500 and witnessed 2 NDs, in both cases it was vendors, not customers. Just to be very clear, NDs happen because a PERSON pulls the trigger on a loaded firearm. I'm sure people still CC and ignore the rules but for me just avoiding the fiasco works better. In the last few years finding a deal there has become a much smaller possibility. Eschew the parking and entry fee by shopping your local dealers. If you figure the extra time, gas and money spent I think you will find you will get a much better deal with the "locals" and avoid the occasional "crop dusting" you are always subjected to that the 1500 is infamous for. Just my take.

Alright, I'll bite. If the gun show were a movie theater and did this, we'd never hear the end of it and there would be 42 pages in the thread about it. While it isn't exactly a gun free zone, it functionally is one, if everyone follows the rules.

I'm not going! (Actally, I'm not going partially because I shot my $$$ on a night vision rifle scope this week!)

Thanks Principal Skinr, I had forgotten the "dog pile" on Bradis about the no guns sign. Everyone wants to ride the locals into the ground but when the big shot from out of town shows up with the "world class" show he gets a pass.. :soapbox: I"m done, I think :)

The first 1500 show I attended I was asked if I had any firearms and showed them my 1911 empty and locked back. They zip tied it and then asked if I have any loaded magazines. I said yes and was told to unload the mag and put the bullets in one pocket and the mag in another. Since that experience I've been to several more shows but only have my gun zip tied. I never have been asked again about my loaded magazine. just my $.02

Except "brandishing" isn't in any law in Indiana.

last year they made me empty my magazine and put the ammo in another pocket and they put a nylon tie between your slide and magazine well or cylinder on a revolver

That's because you showed them your gun. They let me keep mine loaded and concealed because I kept my damn mouth shut.

I thought about that but my buddy didn't say that he had his and kept it concealed but someone in the line said that my buddy had one and he didn't have to show it so the State Police confiscated his firearm and escorted out him under the threat of arrest
    just never know

Sounds like your buddy didn't really have it concealed. If no one sees it then they can't say anything.
