Cell Phone for SHTF - No way, Sat Phone!

My ATT contract is about to expire, I'd be tempted to do this, but I've still got the contract for a few more months, and don't have the spare cash to do it but:

Voice Pricing

Sat phone with unlimited calling for 500 (New model phone) and 20 bucks a month. Not sure what the price is after the 1 year contract though. I saw the phones for 750 elsewhere.

If anyone gets one, I want to play with it. Curious as to what the latency of the voice is. Last one I talked on was a good 3/4 - 1 second.
